House fire in Prentice leaves one firefighter injured

The Prentice Volunteer Fire Department responded to a house fire with a person still inside Saturday morning at 7:48 a.m. After a firefighter that lived nearby arrived first, the person inside the house was able to get out. As the first firetruck arrived, heavy flames were coming out of the kitchen area of the house.

Two River Falls houses go up in flames on frigid night

River Falls firefighters battled blazes at two houses that went up in flames immediately behind Ezekiel Lutheran Church in River Falls early Saturday. River Falls Fire Department was dispatched at 1 a.m. Jan. 26 to a structure fire at 222 E. Walnut St., an older two-story home just across the alley from the entrance to Jacob's Ladder Preschool.

New Mexico fire department rolls out 'clean cab' engines to fight cancer risk in firefighters

VIDEO: New Mexico fire departments are looking to help protect their firefighters from getting cancer. The Bernalillo County Fire Department is now the first in the state to have fire engines built to help with that mission. BCFD said the number of firefighter deaths from cancer is increasing nationwide, in part, because of the exposure to carcinogens often left on their gear.

Columbia Gas will pay for extra Massachusetts firefighters

Courtesy of Columbia Gas, the city of Lawrence will have an extra crew of firefighters on duty for at least the first two months of this year. The natural gas provider has agreed to pay for an extra, three-person engine company of firefighters for January and February 2019, Fire Chief Brian Moriarty announced Wednesday.

Several hundred first responders were welcomed by the Dodgers organization as a show of appreciation for battling the recent wildfires in Southern California.

Mequon Fire Department rescues dog from Milwaukee River ice

PHOTO: The Mequon Fire Department was a pup’s best friend after they saved a dog that fell through the ice on the Milwaukee River. The department shared pictures of the rescue on its Facebook page Thursday. Firefighters remind everyone not to travel out onto ice unless you are 100 percent sure of its thickness.

Cedarburg day care center evacuated because of carbon monoxide

VIDEO: A Cedarburg day care evacuated more than 70 children Thursday after carbon monoxide flooded the KinderCare building. All 71 of the children are OK. The staff had to evacuate all of the kids -- ranging in age from 6 weeks to 4 years old -- to an emergency evacuation site at a Walgreens across the street.
