Significant damage: Firefighters hampered by lack of water while battling fire in Greendale

PHOTO: Firefighters in Greendale on Thursday afternoon, Jan. 31 responded to a fire at a home on Greenmeadow Lane, southeast of 92nd and Grange. Fire officials said it was called in as a fireplace fire, and found to be a chimney fire that spread to the outside of the home and to the home’s attic area.

Fire destroys garage in town of Oconto

A garage was destroyed in a fire Thursday afternoon in the town of Oconto. Oconto Fire Rescue, dispatched to 6152 Cream City Road about 12:47 p.m., found a single-story garage fully involved in fire. The garage’s roof had already collapsed, and vinyl siding on the house 15 feet away and on another garage about 30 feet away was melted.

Hot coals used to warm car set car on fire, Madison Fire says

Using hot charcoal under your car to get it warm enough to start isn't the best idea, as a Madison man can attest to. Firefighters were called to the 3700 block of Karstens Drive Thursday afternoon for a vehicle in flames, after the owner of the vehicle put a baking sheet full of hot charcoal under the car.

Firefighters battle massive fire at paper plant in New Jersey, closing some area schools

VIDEO: Firefighters continued their efforts through the day Thursday following a devastating fire that destroyed the Marcal Paper Mills facility in Elmwood Park. The fire broke out at about 5 p.m. Wednesday at the plant on Market Street and went to eight alarms. Huge paper rolls in the warehouse were fully engulfed in flames, and the roof collapsed.

New bill wants to record every EMS transport in Maine

Several police departments in Maine require recording devices on their officers and in their patrol cars. But what about videotaping the inside of an ambulance during a call? Topsham Fire Chief Chris McLaughlin says the camera in their ambulance has no recording device. He thinks that would violate a patient's privacy.

FDNY unites bone marrow donors and recipients

Son of deceased Washington man intubated for practice, settles

VIDEO: Brad Ginn Jr. is speaking publicly for the first time about the day Bellingham firefighters practiced intubation on his father's dead body. His father, Bradley Ginn Sr., died in a medic unit on his way to the hospital on July 31, 2018. When the hospital wouldn't accept his body, firefighters took him back to the Fire Department.

Arkansas bill pushes to give firefighters more sick leave while battling cancer

VIDEO: An Arkansas lawmaker has filed a bill that would give firefighters more sick leave when battling cancer. House Bill 1299 was introduced at the State Capitol on Wednesday by state Rep. Nicole Clowney, D-Fayetteville. The proposal comes after the death of Little Rock firefighter Nathaniel Crump, who in 2017 lost his fight against cancer.

Cameron firefighters withstand subzero wind chills to fight house fire, rescue residents

A photo of a Wisconsin fire chief is getting a lot of traction online, as crews continued to fight fires in subzero temperatures. Wednesday, one of the firefighters on scene of a house fire in the Village of Cameron Fire snapped a photo of Chief Mitch Hansen, covered in ice from fighting the fire in the frigid wind chills.
