Chattanooga city leaders came together Thursday afternoon to discuss their commitment to public safety and emergency response.
This project is called Power to Protect. It's a joint initiative between the city and EPB.
Mayor Andy Berke said he doesn't know of another community in the country doing this.

The Cleveland Fire Fighter's Association said it has safety concerns when it comes to the city's aging fleet of fire trucks.
Fire union President Francis Lally pointed to Cleveland's latest annual report on the fire department, which indicated 13 of the city's 42 fire trucks are listed in "poor condition," with eight of the trucks having more than 120,000 miles on them.

Four chihuahuas died in a house fire on Milwaukee's south side Thursday evening, April 15, police said.
The fire happened near 5th Place and Becher Street -- a few blocks east of Kosciuszko Park -- around 6:30 p.m. Police said the fire appears to be accidental and may have started in the home's kitchen.

Pasco County Fire Rescue Special Operations Division bought all three shifts of crews to do some advanced confined-space training 60 feet down in the ship’s hull – training they might not otherwise be able to get at home.

VIDEO: A fire caused heavy damage Wednesday morning to an apartment complex on the city’s North Side.
When firefighters arrived at the complex in the 3200 block of Nacogdoches Road, they found heavy flames and called in a second alarm.
San Antonio Fire Chief Charles Hood said between 60 to 100 occupants will need to find another place to live.

“I’m a retired firefighter myself, and after 20 years on the job I’ve seen two of my brothers lost to suicide and two other suicide attempts,” Robert Coleman said.
After several years, one bill finally passed through the West Virginia Legislature that lawmakers believe will save lives.

Seven volunteer fire companies in Niagara County are signed up to take part in the 12th annual Recruit NY Weekend organized by the Firemen's Association of the State of New York. Recruit NY Weekend is April 24-25.

One person was hospitalized Wednesday morning following a fiery single-vehicle crash on Madison’s near east side.
Firefighters with the Madison Fire Department responded to the intersection of East Washington Avenue and North Dickinson Street around 4 a.m. When they arrived at the scene, crews found an SUV with heavy front-end damage that had hit a tree.

Like seemingly every workplace, the Rock County Communications Center adapted to ensure operations continued through the COVID-19 pandemic as dispatchers eye the future with optimism as an expansion of the facility is on the horizon.
In 2020, Director Kathy Sukus said the center shifted its work model to allow for half of emergency dispatchers to work from a temporary location at the Rock County Highway Department.

Months after putting a ban on police from using chokeholds except in life-or-death situations into official policy, the Milwaukee Fire and Police Commission on Thursday will again consider removing that one exception.
The proposal, which has been discussed at two of the commission’s meetings in the last month, has the support of at least three out of six commissioners on the oversight board.

The Town of Brookfield Fire Department will be using a vacant Quinta Hotel, for a two week active emergency training, according to a news release.
Prior to demolition of the hotel, The Corners of Brookfield donated use of it to the Town of Brookfield Fire Department for two weeks of active emergency response training.

VIDEO: Two years ago, the Orange County Fire Rescue Division created an Apparatus Committee with the expectation of taking a look at its current apparatus, and specifically its fire engines, in order to find ways to become more efficient. The results were recently revealed in impressive fashion.

VIDEO: Electric cars are better for the environment but can pose a hazard for firefighters.
El Paso Fire Department Captain Manuel Maldonado said electric cars are not necessarily more dangerous, but require a different approach when trying to put out fires caused by a crash or any accident.
He said that the initial extinguishing of the fire is the same: the firefighters wear the same protective equipment to extinguish the flames, but they take one additional step after.

Wisconsin is on track to see its worst fire season in more than five years, officials say, after hundreds of unseasonal blazes prompted the governor to declare a state of emergency.
In just the first four months of the year, Wisconsin has lost nearly as much acreage to wildfires as it did in all of 2020.
