Voters approve Fond du Lac public safety referendum

A $1.3 million referendum in Fond du Lac to hire additional firefighter-paramedics and police officers has passed. According to results posted on the Fond du Lac County website, the referendum passed by a vote of 5,085-2,355. As previously reported by Action 2 News, the referendum asked taxpayers to pay an additional $43 per year for property tax valued at $100,000 or more.

Madison Fire Department sees rise in dumpster fires started by coals, ashes

The Madison Fire Department says used charcoal is to blame for a large dumpster fire on the city’s far west side earlier this week, and it’s part of a larger trend they’re seeing lately. Ladder 7 was called out to the 6500 block of Raymond Road just after 9 a.m. Monday for a fire in a fenced-in dumpster area.

Lakewood firefighters battle two fires amid dry conditions

Firefighters in Lakewood were busy Monday. They responded to two fires. One blaze spread to a home. At 11:14 a.m., the Town of Lakewood Fire Department was called to a “large fire” in a residential back yard on Brer Rabbit Ln. They found a camper on fire. The fire spread to a wooded area near the camper.

One dead in Marshfield fire

VIDEO: Wood County Sheriff's Department say that shortly after noon on Monday, an individual reported a fire in a ditch with a person down in the fire. The fire was located at CTH A at Marshfield Road in Marshfield. Police say upon arrival, they located a 79-year-old man dead in the burn area. Police say in a press release they believe the man tending to the fire when he "suffered an unknown issue and succumbed to the fire.

9/11 Museum Acquires Prayer Bench Used by Fire Department Chaplain Killed in World Trade Center Towers

PHOTO: A prayer bench used by the Rev. Mychal Judge, a Fire Department chaplain killed in the collapse of the World Trade Center towers on Sept. 11, 2001, was driven to the New York area on Sunday to join the collection of the Sept. 11 Memorial and Museum, museum officials said. The bench formerly belonged to Judge's twin sister, Dympnia Jessich, and spent the last five years at an Episcopal monastery in Rising Sun, Maryland, according to Sister Teresa Irene, a Carmelite nun there.

Iowa fire station flies flag encouraging organ donation

Firefighters continue their search for a cause for Friday evening’s fire on La Crosse’s Northside. Crews used half a million gallons of water to put the fire out. Last Friday La Crosse fire crews fought an industrial fire at Alter Metal Recycling in the La Crosse Industrial Park on the Northside. The thick black smoke shot in the air came from, what La Crosse Fire Department officials confirm, were 100 cars burning in a scrapyard.

Governor declares state of emergency due to wildfire risk

PHOTOS: Wisconsin Gov. Tony Evers has declared a state of emergency due to elevated wildfire conditions. The entire state of Wisconsin is under very high fire danger, according to the Department of Natural Resources. There have been 320 wildfires in Wisconsin this year. More than 1,400 acres have burned.

Michigan firefighter recovering after cyanide poisoning

Two families displaced after apartment fire in Fitchburg

An apartment fire damaged two units at Chalet Gardens apartments on Sunday evening. Fitchburg Fire Rescue say multiple residents called around 5 p.m. after seeing heavy smoke coming from the exterior of one of the apartments. Firefighters were able to quickly enter the apartment and put out the fire.

Drone analysis shows 230 acres burned in 'Marcy Road' wildfire in Menomonee Falls

Every Wisconsin county remains under a very high risk for fire danger, officials with the Wisconsin Department of Natural Resources reported Sunday, April 4, noting more than 150 fires over the Easter weekend, including the 230-acre Marcy Road fire in Menomonee Falls. We don't yet know how that fire began, but it did prompt a warning from firefighters for the public to be more careful.

No one injured in fire at Sunny Ridge Nursing and Rehabilitation Center in Sheboygan

A fire at a nursing home in Sheboygan caused $60,000 worth of damage Saturday afternoon. Firefighters responded to a report of fire alarms going off around 3:45 p.m. at Sunny Ridge Nursing and Rehabilitation Center, 3014 Erie Ave. The fire had been controlled by the sprinkler system when firefighters came to the room of the fire, according to the Sheboygan Fire Department.

Grand Rapids Volunteer Fire Department hosts drive-thru Easter event

Cornfield Damaged Following Illegal Burn in Fond du Lac

The fire came as the Wisconsin Department of Natural Resources suspended burning permits and warned of very high fire danger statewide.
