Sturgeon Bay Warning Sirens To Stay Silent

The City of Sturgeon Bay is taking down its outdoor warning sirens. The six sirens were installed in 1997. The city’s fire department says the sirens have a 25-year lifespan and would need to be replaced next year. Citing the annual maintenance cost of $3,000-$4,000 and the $25,000 cost of each new siren, the fire department has decided not to replace them.

VIDEO: Fire spreads to historic firefighter drill tower in Texas

A fire near the old drill tower for the Austin Fire Department spread to the tower itself on West Cesar Chavez Street in downtown Austin Thursday night. The Buford Tower was built in the 1930s, according to the Texas State Historical Association, and stands about 67 feet tall. Originally called “The Old Fireman’s Practice Tower,” TSHA says it was used as a training facility for local firefighters.

AT&T starts offering 5G+ to first responders via FirstNet

First responders using the FirstNet network, which is provided by AT&T, will get access to AT&T’s 5G millimeter wave (mmWave) network starting this month. AT&T calls this service “5G+,” meaning users get higher speeds than the 5G offered on low-band spectrum. First responders in parts of 38 cities and more than 20 venues will get access to the AT&T mmWave (5G+) spectrum this April; they also will continue to get the always-on priority and preemption across LTE – Band 14 spectrum plus all of AT&T’s commercial LTE spectrum bands.

Man arrested on suspicion of grand theft auto for stealing California fire engine

PHOTO: A 44-year-old man was arrested after allegedly stealing a fire engine in San Bernardino on Thursday, officials said. Around 9:45 a.m., the Highland Fire Department reported that their fire engine was stolen in the area of Cooley and Pedley streets in San Bernardino, according to a news release from the San Bernardino County Sheriff’s Department.

Cincinnati firefighter pens children’s book to inspire, empower young girls

Mario Jackson is a Cincinnati firefighter, a paramedic and now also a children’s book author. Jackson says “Nya the Great and Her Visit to the Fire House” is aimed at inspiring young girls. “I realized that there isn’t a lot of representation for women, especially women of color, in jobs that are usually male-dominated,” he told us on Thursday.

Fond du Lac referendum seeks $1.3M for public safety

'Number of rescues' after reports of people trapped in Brown Deer fire

Fireboat stations receive major upgrades to tackle emergencies at California port

5 firefighters, EMS worker injured in blaze at New York factory

West Virginia fire department working to identify inequity in city neighborhoods

Two injured in Fond du Lac apartment fire, cause determined to be a flare up of cooking grease

Fire officials say two people were injured during a fire at an apartment building in Fond du Lac Wednesday. According to the Fond du Lac Fire Department, crews were called to the Countryside West Apartments at 869 Security Drive around 6 p.m. The complex houses 24 units. When crews arrived, they found smoke coming from a second floor apartment, with tenants evacuating while fire alarms were going off.

'It was a landmark': Old Caledonia farmhouse burned down in training exercise

Lake Geneva's Safety Town program to be held in June

Safety Town returns Tuesday through Friday, June 8 to 11, at Lake Geneva Middle School, 600 N. Bloomfield Road, Lake Geneva. The safety program is designed for children at least age 5, entering kindergarten in the fall. During a 12-hour program — three hours per day, for four days — children will learn safety from certified teachers and qualified professionals, such as firefighters and police personnel.

Police: 1 hospitalized after Hartland apartment building fire

Six displaced after house fire near 37th and Scott in Milwaukee

It happened around 3 p.m. Battalion Chief Brian Gardener with the Milwaukee Fire Department said they received reports of people trapped after a fire on the front porch. 150 firefighters battle Chicago recycling plant fire

VIDEO: About 150 firefighters worked feverishly to put out a massive fire at a waste management facility in the Brighton Park neighborhood Tuesday. The wind-blown fire started around 4 p.m. in a prairie near the railway about a block away from Waste Management of Illinois, Inc.'s recycling facility near 48th Place and Christiana Avenue, according to a statement from the company.
