There's a volunteer fire chief who is riding is bicycle to answer calls for help because the bridges in his town are out.
In a post, the State Fire Marshal talked about what Lockport Fire Chief Armand Autin is doing to serve his Lafourche Parish town. "Because the bridges are out due to Ida, Chief Autin is driving his truck to the closest bridge, then riding his bicycle across the bayou to respond to incidents," the post says.

For the first time in Graham Fire & Rescue's history, the department has an all-female crew.
"It can be a challenge to really have women even be interested in the fire service," said Graham Fire & Rescue Lieutenant Jill D'Len. "Not a lot of women think that it's a career that they can possibly pursue.

In Northeast Wisconsin, there are multiple events popping up to pay tribute to everyone who died during the attacks on Sept. 11, 2001 – honoring all of the individuals 20 years later.
According to Associated Press, nearly 3,000 people were killed in the 9/11 attacks. 2,750 people were killed at the World Trade Center in New York, 184 died at the Pentagon, and 40 more died in Pennsylvania.

Several fire departments in Wisconsin, including a few in the south central region, received more than $1.7 million Friday to fund new training programs and equipment.
The grants will go directly to fire departments and EMS groups that are not affiliated with a hospital, explained Rep. Ron Kind (D- La Crosse).

Flooding problems are nothing new for Vernon County, but one village is taking steps to lessen the future impacts of the Kickapoo River.

With severe dry conditions, practicing fire safety is more crucial now than ever to prevent indoor fires.
As of now, there have been 13 indoor/outdoor structure fires in Superior this year. Kitchen fires are the most common indoor fire incidents, but leaving open flames and heat sources unattended is a big reason why fires are going up.

VIDEOS: A house exploded in New Jersey Thursday morning just hours after it was evacuated due to flood waters from Ida, and a person who was traveling in the vicinity was injured by the blast.
It happened around 5:44 a.m. on River Road near Whittier Street in Rahway. Several residents posted on social media that they heard or felt the explosion, which was caught on Ring video from a nearby home.

It was 2003. Arad was 34, a few years removed from graduate school and working as an architect for New York City’s housing department when the call went out for designs for a memorial at ground zero. An open competition would produce a winning design.
Architect Daniel Libeskind the designer of the Freedom Tower, had charge of the master plan for the site and had set the design guidelines for the memorial.

Clemson recruited Noah DeHond to play football in 2017.
The Rochester, New York native played on the offensive line. He was redshirted his freshman year before suffering a neck injury in 2018. He never got a chance to play in a game. “I have no regrets about my time with the football team,” DeHond said.

PHOTOS: Cairo’s first fire engine, a 1936 Dodge fire truck, has found a new home at Grand Island’s Stuhr Museum of the Prairie Pioneer.
It was the first fire engine purchased by the Village of Cairo and belonged to the Cairo Volunteer Fire Department.
“They have put a lot of work into restoring it and love it very much, and they’re donating it here so we can share it with everybody,” Stuhr Curator Kari Stofer said.

Thirteen patients at Ascension St. Elizabeth Campus in Appleton were transferred to other local hospitals Thursday following a chemical gas release.
Hazardous materials crews were called to the northwest portion of the hospital at 9 a.m.
Appleton Fire was notified to check the air quality.
According to the hospital’s statement:
Out of an abundance of caution and because the Emergency Department is in close proximity to the affected area, 13 patients were transferred to other local hospitals.

A garage is completely destroyed after a fire, reports Fond du Lac Fire Rescue.
According to a release, the department was alerted to a garage on fire near the 100 block of Everett St. around 11:50 a.m. Wednesday.
Fire crews say when they arrived the structure was fully engulfed in flames. They note the fire spread to a nearby garage that had limited access due to numerous power lines being down as a result of the fire.

A lab fire at the Wisconsin Energy Institute at UW-Madison prompted an evacuation on Tuesday.
Madison Fire Department crews responded to a fire alarm at around 1:20 p.m., though no smoke or fire could be seen when they arrived.
Crews were then told by a building manager that there was an active fire in an autoclave lab room.

Madison first responders will host a blood drive on September 11, in commemoration of the 20th anniversary of 9/11.
The Red Cross announced Wednesday that Madison Police Department and Madison Fire Department will host the blood drive. They anticipate that they will exceed their one thousandth donation milestone, according to Executive Director for the Southwest Wisconsin Chapter of the American Red Cross Kyle Krieg.
