Massachusetts city opens time capsule from 1936 fire station

Standing beside a table full of the contents from a time capsule “buried” at the fire station in 1936, retired Fire Capt. Bob Ferris remarked on the photo of his grandfather, former Fire Chief Herb Ferris. “It was a little emotional to see this,” Bob Ferris said. On Thursday afternoon, city officials, including Mayor Roxann Wedegartner, and a handful of members of the Fire Department were invited to the temporary fire station on Hope Street for the opening of a time capsule taken from the southeast cornerstone of the former fire station on Main Street.

Major California earthquake would knock out cell service, communications, study finds

Ambulance groups hurting for paramedics; How North Texas first responders are adjusting

New positive COVID-19 cases fall dramatically in Kewaunee, Door counties

Kewaunee County remains at a "critically high" level for COVID-19 activity, according to the Wisconsin Department of Health Services, but its number of positive tests for the virus has decreased dramatically over the past week from the record-high numbers seen in late September. Door County also has seen its weekly positive test numbers cut in half in the past two weeks after averaging about 100 cases a week across the last three weeks of September.

Plane with 21 on board runs off Texas runway and catches fire while attempting to take off

VIDEO: No one was seriously hurt when an airplane bound for Boston ran off a runway and burned Tuesday morning near Houston, authorities said. The McDonnell Douglas MD-87 was carrying 21 people when it rolled through a fence and caught fire while trying to take off from the Houston Executive Airport in Brookshire.

Iowa pup to join New York fire station, 3 years after death of Dalmatian who helped 9/11 firefighters heal

Tank the Dalmatian from Perry, Iowa, is headed to New York City. He will become the mascot dog for Ladder 20 of the New York City Fire Department in lower Manhattan. Tank is set to replace the dog Twenty, who was given to the Ladder company 20 years ago after they lost seven firefighters when the North Tower came down September 11, 2001.

Maine explosion lawsuit for six firefighters settled, victims and families hope for closure

Six firefighters and the estate of Captain Michael Bell settled with C.N. Brown Company of South Paris and Techno Metal Post Maine of Manchester. Confusion continues as Louisiana city approaches workers’ COVID-19 vaccine mandate as soft launch

The New Orleans fire department says it received a nice gift from the city: one thousand rapid COVID tests days before the city’s vaccine mandate went into effect. “It’s advantageous in that sense we can test when you get off work and then be ready by the following tour,” said Aaron Mischler. Firefighters work on 24- and 48-hour shifts, so union leader Aaron Mischler says the once-a-week testing requirements work well for their firefighters.

VIDEO: Colorado fire-rescue responds to large apartment fire

Boulder Fire-Rescue (BFR) tweeted Tuesday morning that they are working a large apartment fire in the 2300 block of Pearl Street. BFR said that multiple agencies are helping put out the fire that has affected 83 units in three buildings of the apartment complex. Two minor injuries were reported, BFR said, but those injuries did not require either person to be hospitalized.
