Crash Responder Safety Week: 'Move and slow down' - Steps to protect emergency crews after crashes

The Wisconsin Department of Transportation is asking drivers to protect those who protect us by taking steps to ensure safe driving conditions while workers respond to a crash. The WisDOT reported 115,694 crashes in 2020 throughout the state. Of those, 703 were secondary crashes, happening after an initial incident.

Neillsville Fire Department Responds to Shed Fire

The Neillsville Fire Department responded to a shed fire yesterday afternoon. According to Neillsville Fire Chief Matt Meyer, around 4:16pm, they received a report of a shed fire at W5745 Strobel Road in the Township of Pine Valley. The resident had used a lawn mower prior to the fire and parked it in the shed when done.

Fire destroys Oxford home

An Oxford woman was sound asleep early Monday morning when her 16-year-old nephew burst into her bedroom to tell her the house was on fire. Awaking to the shocking news, she quickly got up and they both raced out of the home and to safety. The pair made a beeline for the main home where they alerted their family to the burning structure nearby.

Fire pit ashes spark house fire in Appleton

Fire pit ashes are believed to have sparked a house fire in Appleton Sunday night. At 11:30 p.m., Appleton firefighters were called to a report of a house fire in the 1000 block of S. Weimer St. Crews learned the occupants had escaped the home without injury. Firefighters attacked flames at the rear of the home.

Effort underway to have fallen firefighter listed as New York county’s first Line of Duty Death

Thomas Pomplin was 28 when he died from the effects of overheating and exhaustion from fighting the Storm’s Cedar Tub and Pail Factory fire in Nyack in July 1854. He died eight days later. It is believed that he was the first line of duty death of a firefighter in Rockland County, but because he was black, that designation never happened.

New goal set for emergency responders to clear crashes off Missouri highways

Emergency response agencies across Missouri now have a goal of clearing an accident scene on state highways in less than 90 minutes. A handful of other states already have something similar in place, like Washington, Florida, and Tennessee. Pardeeville Fire Department mourns loss of firefighter who died from COVID-19

The Pardeeville Fire Department is mourning the loss of a firefighter who died from COVID-19. The department said in a Facebook post that 32-year-old Brandon Romo fought a difficult battle the last few weeks after being diagnosed with the virus. Romo leaves behind a wife and three kids. PFD said it plans to hold a bingo night fundraiser on November 17th to raise money for Romo's family.

Person Dead in New Hampshire Fire; Firefighter Among 2 Taken to Hospital

A person died in a fire that burned a building in Manchester, New Hampshire, Saturday while several more people were rescued, officials said. Monona fire crews rescue hiker from marsh

Monona firefighters and law enforcement rescued a hiker from Yahara River marshes Saturday afternoon. The Monona Fire Department assistant fire chief told 27 News, a hiker got stuck in the mud. MFD crews shut down two lanes of the Beltline to station a firetruck on the bridge. They extended the ladder over the bridge and two firefighters and one Dane County deputy were able to rescue the hiker.

Green Bay house fire leaves one person displaced

According to the Green Bay Metro Fire Department, at approximately 12:25 a.m. on Saturday they were called to a report of a structure fire on 920 S. Oneida Street. When fire crews arrived, they found a single family residence with smoke showing from the attic area. They quickly extinguished the fire located in the attic space around the fireplace chimney, with the fire deemed under control within 15 minutes.

Two pets dead, home a total loss in fire northeast of Poynette

Two pets are dead and a home is a total loss after a fire northeast of Poynette. Multiple fire departments responded to a structure fire Thursday. Columbia County dispatchers said the call came in around 11:45 a.m. Authorities said the fire happened near Dunning Road and County Highway B. Crews reported that a single-family home was fully engulfed in flames when they arrived.
