For the second time in a week, fire trucks from departments across the region lined the streets of Mineral Point on Friday as the community paid its respects to a firefighter killed while responding to a crash on U.S. Highway 151 last week.
Capt. Brian Busch, 43, was driving a Mineral Point fire truck that was hit by a semi truck while turning onto an emergency crossover on Highway 151 near mile marker 38 last Thursday.

Smoke alarms can save lives. A potentially deadly situation could have been avoided in Milwaukee had there been a smoke alarm in the apartment.
On Jan. 8, the Milwaukee Fire Department responded to a call for smoke in an apartment building. There was light smoke and haze in the basement. Everyone evacuated the building except for one apartment.

The structure appeared to be fully enveloped in flame by 6:30 p.m. according to witnesses on the scene.

New York firefighters battled a fire with "great volumes of smoke" nearly 36 years ago at the same Bronx apartment building that caught fire Sunday, leaving 17 dead -- all from smoke inhalation, officials said.
The March 1986 fire was documented in FDNY's official training publication, WNYF, in which members of the department write about fire incidents, highlighting protocols and training, according to a FDNY spokesperson.

Cy-Fair Fire Department supervisor vehicles will now be equipped with whole blood for patients experiencing rapid blood loss from trauma.
The department began providing pre-hospital whole blood for patients at the point of injury on Jan. 6, a collaboration with Gulf Coast Regional Blood Center.

The Kaukauna Fire Department responded at 1:33 a.m. to a fire at 210 Whitney Street where a single-family residential building was found to have smoke coming from the side of the home and bathroom window. Firefighters entered the home and extinguished the fire in the bathroom.
The home occupant reported that he awoke from sleep to find heavy smoke and went to the adjourning house to call 911.

Merrill Fire Department recently purchased new ballistic vests for its paramedics to wear on potentially high threat EMS calls, replacing the outdated, hard-to-maintain ballistic vests the department had been using, the Merrill Fire Department announced this week.
In addition to active shooter scenarios, paramedics will wear the vests on calls that involve drug overdoses, domestic violence and physical altercations.

The Kenosha Fire Department located human remains on Tuesday, Jan. 11 within the debris of the Model Market fire location near 54th Street and 24th Avenue.
Investigators had been trying to locate a man who may have been inside the market when the fire occurred last Wednesday, Jan. 5. The Kenosha County Medical Examiner was called to the scene on Tuesday – and has taken custody of the deceased.

Stoughton Fire crews were called into action for a fire on Tuesday.
Crews were sent to the 1000 block of Stoughton Avenue just after 7 p.m. for reports of fire coming from the second floor of a home. All residents had evacuated the house when firefighters arrived and were uninjured. Firefighters later rescued a hamster from the first floor of the home.

VIDEO: A two-alarm condo fire in Elm Grove resulted in no injuries Tuesday morning, Jan. 11.
Firefighters responded to the four-unit condo building on Bluemound Road near Elm Grove Road around 10:30 a.m. for a fire that started on a porch, reported by a resident. Firefighters found heavy smoke and flames coming from the second floor, and the fire quickly spread to the attic, causing significant damage to the second floor.
