The Rice Lake Fire Department responded to a garage fire Saturday morning.
According to a release from the RLFD, on Jan. 29 at 11:40 a.m. the RLFD received a report of a structure fire at 936 Linden Avenue in the City of Rice Lake.
When firefighters arrived, they found a garage engulfed in fire. The fire was contained to the garage, with some radiant heat damage to an exposure.

A firefighter who died after battling COVID-19 was honored with the Dale Fire & Rescue Department leading a funeral procession on Saturday.
A large crowd of family members, friends, and firefighters from many local departments packed the Dale Town Hall and somberly lit up the streets in the Town of Dale.

An Appleton woman recently credited a firefighter with saving her life. He responded to a fire in a duplex on Appleton’s north side Jan. 18.

The Stevens Point Fire Department along with Portage County Ambulance are working to bring awareness to a heart healthy lifestyle.
February is American Heart Month, and now through March 8 a red heart will be on the side of Stevens Point Fire Station #1.
The heart has red bulbs, and for every heart attack or cardiac arrest that's recorded by the fire departments in Stevens Point, Amherst, and Plover a black bulb will replace a red one.

VIDEO: The Asheville Fire Department (AFD) has a new tool to help with investigations. Through FEMA’s Fire Safety and Prevention grant, AFD received a Matterport 3D imaging camera.
“It allows us to essentially paint a picture of the entire incident,” Bill States, senior deputy fire marshal, said.
The technology lets AFD go inside a fire scene long after the initial investigation has ended.

Interfering with a fire or medical first responder could soon become illegal if a bill being considered in the Washington State Legislature passes this session.
A proposed House bill would create a gross misdemeanor for anyone who knowingly interferes with the actions of a firefighter or emergency medical services provider.

A fire at a Sun Prairie apartment complex Wednesday night caused $75,000 in damage, the city’s fire department said Thursday.
In a news release, the Sun Prairie Fire Department said the fire broke out around 10 p.m. at an apartment building in the 2000 block of Wyoming Avenue. When firefighters arrived, they found smoke coming from a first-floor apartment and evacuated nearby residents.

Fire officials say a home is a total loss after it went up in flames Thursday.
According to Suring Fire Chief Mark Zahn, the fire department responded to a fire on Highway G along the northeast side of Kelly Lake in Oconto County at 1 p.m. Thursday.
Zahn said the year-round cabin, which had no occupants inside at the time of the fire, is a complete loss.

Workers at a local chocolate manufacturer evacuated a building that filled with smoke when a machine reportedly exploded at the facility Wednesday night.
Firefighters responded to the 5:25 p.m. incident at Puratos Chocolate USA, 5000 70th Ave. where they encountered smoke but did not find a fire, according to Battalion Chief Ken Schroeder of the Kenosha Fire Department.

Amherst Fire Chief Victor Voss and Assistant Fire Chief Brian Swan were honored by Assemblywoman Katrina Shankland (D-71st District) in Madison on Tuesday.

A garbage truck burst into flames in a neighborhood in Fresno on Wednesday afternoon – and the fireball was caught on camera.
The Fresno Fire Department says the truck caught on fire in the area of Willow and Perrin avenues.
A video shows intense flames and heavy black smoke billowing from the front of the truck.

First responders face many risks, but for firefighters especially there is real concern about the risk of cancer.
“Firefighters are at an increased risk for some types of cancer.
