VIDEO: Michigan firefighters rescue trapped woman from raging fire while sheriff’s deputies man water hoses

PHOTOS: A woman is in critical condition Monday, Sept. 19, after being rescued from her back deck during a raging house fire. The woman, whose name has not been released, was trapped on the deck of the Cutlerville home. Kent County sheriff’s deputies could not reach the woman but firefighters from Cutlerville, Dutton Township and Kentwood were able to rescue her while deputies sprayed water from fire hoses.

Ohio firefighter pinned underneath fire truck during rollover crash

VIDEO: An elderly volunteer firefighter underwent surgery Monday and remains in a hospital in Columbus after a rollover crash that happened Sunday. Middleport Fire Chief Jeff Darst tells WSAZ the 72-year-old firefighter suffered fractures in his lower leg. Darst says this could’ve easily been fatal, and they’re just grateful it wasn’t worse.

National group meets in Texas to discuss prevention of firefighter deaths

Denver firefighters get second option in cancer-related medical costs

Denver firefighters now have a second option for covering cancer-related medical costs. The Denver City Council unanimously approved a bill that allows firefighters to join the Voluntary Cancer Benefits Award Program (VCAP) set up by the Colorado Firefighter Heart and Cancer Benefits Trust. This measure would exist in place of the existing workers' compensation program set up by the city, but there are a few key differences between the two programs that make the new one more attractive to city employees, city officials said.

5 Mile Tower Fire to be featured in webinar on Sept. 21 at the Forest History Association of Wisconsin

The Forest History Association of Wisconsin will offer a free webinar at 6:30 p.m. on Wednesday, Sept. 21. Author Bill Matthias of Wascott will present the program based on the story told in his 2010 book “Monster Fire at Minong,” published by the Wisconsin Historical Society Press. The account of this fire has been told and re-told as a “success story” in many forms.

Garbage can fire causes $20,000 in damage to garage in Green Bay

The Green Bay Metro Fire Department responded to a garage fire Saturday morning around 8:55 AM at 1280 Chicago Street. Upon arrival, the Battalion chief found a garbage can on fire; the flames spread into the detached garage and extended into the roof. Firefighters were quickly able to stop the fire from spreading any further inside the garage, or the car inside.

Florida fire rescue truck shot multiple times while heading to call

VIDEO: A Lauderhill fire rescue has been left damaged after someone shot at it while crews responded to a call. A paramedic saw the gunman, and it turned into quite a scare for the first responders. On Friday, the crew of Rescue 30 of Lauderhill Fire Rescue’s fire truck was en route to help a person who was suffering chest pains when it was shot multiple times in the area of Northwest 19th Street and 31st Avenue.

Fallen Firefighter Memorial ceremony returns to Colorado Springs after two-year hiatus

Piece of machinery catches fire inside County Materials Corp in Madison

A piece of machinery caught fire inside of County Materials Corp in Madison Saturday night, according to a news release from the Madison Fire Department. Crews found the piece of machinery on a 3rd floor mezzanine "fully involved" in fire when they responded just after 7:15 p.m. A sprinkler head activated and kept the fire contained until crews were able to extinguish it.

Flames contained to kitchen in Beaver Dam house fire

Beaver Dam firefighters were dispatched to S. Center Street on Friday evening, Sept. 16 for a house fire. When the emergency responders arrived on the scene, they found smoke coming from the front of the house and fire beginning to come out a rear window. A news release says crews were able to quickly knock down and extinguish the fire and keep the fire contained to the kitchen.

One man is dead after his motorcycle was hit from behind in Port Edwards

One man is dead after a vehicle hit his motorcycle on State 54 early Friday morning. At 2:26 a.m. Friday, a caller reported a motorcycle was going west on State 54 when it approached Green Grove Lane, according to the Wood County Sheriff's Office. Deputies determined a vehicle traveling behind the motorcycle hit the back of it as they approached the intersection.

Oak Creek Fire Department offers 'Narcan Hope Kits' to combat overdose epidemic

Opioid related overdoses continue to rise in Milwaukee County. The county’s medical examiner reports that 80% of confirmed drug deaths this year involved fentanyl, with the county on track for 700+ drug related deaths this year. Now, local law enforcement agencies like the Oak Creek Fire Department are working to slow down those numbers by handing out Narcan Hope Kits.

Fond du Lac firefighters battle flames in semi stopped on I-41

City of Fond du Lac Fire/Rescue reports the closure of I-41 was because a semi’s cab was on fire. According to a release, the fire was reported around 1:30 p.m. on Highway 41 in the southbound lane. The Engine Company confirmed the fire was in the cab and crews were able to quickly extinguish the flames before it could extend to the trailer and contents.

VIDEO: Fire under control after destroying California warehouse

After a nearly two-hour long firefight, crews in Stockton have gotten a handle on a two-alarm fire that destroyed a shuttered warehouse in downtown Stockton Thursday. Around 11:30 a.m. Thursday, flames erupted inside of a building, formerly an auto shop, near Hunter and Oak Streets in Stockton, officials with the Stockton Fire Department said.

2022 IAFF Fallen Fire Fighter Memorial to be held this weekend in Colorado

For the first time since the pandemic's start, firefighters from across the United States and Canada will gather in Colorado Springs to memorialize those lost due to service to their communities. This weekend will mark the 2022 IAFF Fire Fighter Memorial and it will be a big one as the International Association of Fire Fighters is inviting all the families impacted by cancellations in 2020 and 2021 to join in person for the event.
