Maryland fire department planning to celebrate 150 year anniversary

Staff says there will be live rescue demonstrations, tours of the firehouse, a parade, and a visit from a special guest. New program in Maine will allow EMS clinicians to initiate Suboxone treatment after overdoses

For people struggling with addiction in Maine, the risk of a deadly overdose has never been higher. Data from Maine EMS shows overdose calls for all substances increased 28% from 2020 to 2021 and 62% from 2010 to 2021. According to the agency, the number of opioid overdoses also increased dramatically, rising 38% from 2020 to 2021.

Cottage Grove Fire Department loses firefighter after battle with PTSD

The Cottage Grove Fire Department announced on Facebook that firefighter Nate Walker passed away Sunday morning after a long battle with PTSD. Lt. Jason Kudma said Walker was a dedicated husband, father, firefighter and veteran who always put his community and family first. Funeral arrangement and additional support for Walker's wife, Katie, and two young children will be shared once details are available.

Town of Burke fire causes $100,000 in damage

Sun Prairie Fire & Rescue is investigating the cause of a Saturday, Sept. 24 fire that caused $100,000 in damage at a Town of Burke commercial property. Assistant Fire Chief Thane Westermeyer said on Saturday afternoon, SPFR responded to the report of a commercial structure fire in the 4600 block of Dovetail Drive in the Town of Burke.

Milwaukee car fire; body with gunshot wound found inside vehicle

Police are investigating a fatal shooting near 15th and Congress in Milwaukee early Sunday, Sept. 25. A 26-year-old man died from his injuries. Initially, Milwaukee firefighters were called to the area for a car fire. After the fire was extinguished, firefighters located a body inside the vehicle. The Milwaukee County Medical Examiner's Office responded to the scene.

Racine Fire Department awarded $2.7M to hire 9 new firefighters

The city of Racine has been awarded $2,743,227 to hire additional firefighters. The money was awarded from FEMA through the Staffing for Adequate Fire and Emergency Response Grants (SAFER). SAFER grants were created to increase or maintain the number of trained firefighters available in communities in an effort to reduce response times.

Sheboygan County Communities to Receive Another Round of ARPA Funding for EMS Providers

Governor Tony Evers has announced that even more ARPA funding is being distributed to communities around the state. Sheboygan County communities will be getting nearly $560,000 which is to be used for emergency services, specifically EMS. The largest chunk of that money will be going to the City of Sheboygan Fire Department, which is slated to get over $116,000.

Celebration event planned for Kaukauna Fire Department’s 100th anniversary

The Kaukauna Fire Department is celebrating their 100 year anniversary with a special event Oct. 1, 2022. The celebration is open to the public from 11 a.m. – 2 p.m. and will kick off with opening remarks from current and past Fire Department chiefs, Mayor Penterman, and more. Following opening remarks, the event will include a Pig Roast, the ThedaStar Helicopter, a jaws of life demonstration, kids activities, a photo booth, and more.

FedEx truck, milk hauler collide; thousands of gallons of milk spilled in Dodge County

Blind boy 'sees' firefighters for the first time with hands-on visit at Florida fire station

New Mexico fire rescue mural repainted after vandalism

VIDEO: The area around Fire Station 1 in Albuquerque is looking a lot brighter. The mural on the side of the station has been repainted. Albuquerque Fire Rescue says they reached out to the artist who created it after someone vandalized one of the faces and asked him if he could fix it. Instead, he repainted the entire thing.

Corn chopper catches fire in Clayton, firefighters use 5k gallons of water to extinguish

5,000 gallons of water were used to extinguish a corn chopper that caught fire in a field on Wednesday in the Town of Clayton. According to a Facebook post, Clayton Fire Rescue was dispatched for a report of a corn chopper on fire out in a field. Heavy black smoke was visible as crews were en route.

Follow Up: Mayo Clinic partners with La Crosse Fire Department under new fitness program

A new collaboration between Mayo Clinic Health System and the La Crosse Fire Department is aimed at improving each firefighter’s strength and well being. As part of the program, a Mayo Clinic athletic trainer, research scientist and physician, all of whom are affiliated with the health system’s sports medicine department, will conduct tests to assess the strength, speed and endurance of La Crosse firefighters in order to pinpoint areas of improvement.

Wisconsin Rapids honors fallen firefighter

VIDEO: Riley Huiras was a volunteer firefighter at the Grand Rapids department, just outside Wisconsin Rapids. Huiras died tragically after a medical emergency on August 3 at just 20 years old. Today, the Wisconsin Rapids community came together in support of his family and hosted a dunk tank fundraiser.
