New Fire Training Facility A Part Of Moraine Park Technical College’s $55-Million Referendum

If it’s approved by voters, Moraine Park Technical College’s $55-million-dollar referendum could bring a new fire training facility to Dodge County. College President Bonnie Baerwald detailed the project during a recent appearance in WBEV’s Community Comment. “It will be about a 14,000-square foot addition…it would give us the opportunity to train not only firefighters but EMS/paramedics and a brand new fire/medic program that we are looking to roll out next fall,” says Baerwald.

Electric fire truck named 'Coolest Thing Made in Wisconsin' this year

Pierce Manufacturing, Inc. announced Wednesday its zero-emissions pumper has won the "Coolest Thing Made in Wisconsin" competition for 2022. The Pierce Volterra Electric Fire Truck received tens of thousands of votes. Pierce, an Oshkosh Corporation company based in Appleton, was among 16 finalists in this year's competition.

After a three year hiring freeze, the Madison Fire Department is accepting applications for full-time firefighters and EMTs, no longer requiring applicants to have U.S. Citizenship. According to a news release by the City of Madison Fire Department, "in spirit of inclusion and accessibility," this year's process will incorporate new approaches throughout the hiring process to minimize barriers that previously limited people from applying, like time constraints, and also adapting to a "changing economic and technological landscape since the Covid-19 pandemic.

VIDEO: Massachusetts fire department teaches fire safety in a new way

Fire training expansion in Adams

Training is expanding for firefighters in Central Wisconsin. Mid-State Technical College partnered with the Adams Fire District to establish a new fire training center in Adams. The ten year long agreement will also fund the installation of new equipment, including a splash pad for ladder training, and burn towers.

Wisconsin Rapids First Responders Tout LUCAS as Life-Saver

A new device is being used by local first responders to help save lives, and it's name is LUCAS. The LUCAS device is a machine that delivers chest compressions so that paramedics can perform other life-saving tasks. Smaller departments rely on LUCAS since they are struggling with staff shortages, and it allows one paramedic to do the job of two.

Two Rescued From Water In Stevens Point

People driving through Midtown Tuesday could probably still smell the smoke from a massive fire that destroyed an apartment complex on Monday night. The fire started in the Peachtree Walk Apartments, and damaged a number of businesses on 12th Street. New fire rescue units hit the streets in Florida city

The first of more planned advanced Critical Care Rescue Units are operating on Jacksonville’s streets now, funded from Jacksonville’s 2023 budget. Moderate damage caused by fire in Sheboygan County

Fort McCoy Fire Department receives international accreditation

The Fort McCoy Directorate of Emergency Services Fire Department was reaccredited for a third time by the Commission on Fire Accreditation International. Taking place every five years, the accreditation process looks at the department and its programs as a whole but it also requires documentation and sitting before the accreditation board.
