Balcony fire at an Appleton apartments, $70k in damages

Crews in the Appleton area responded to reports of a fire on a second-floor balcony at an apartment building on Tuesday morning. According to a release from the Grand Chute Fire Department, the incident began around 9:45 a.m. at the Tri-Park Villas Apartments, the Grand Chute, Appleton, and Fox Crossing Fire Departments all responded.

Two people hurt in one-car crash in Sheboygan County

Two people suffered serious injuries in a crash in northern Sheboygan County Tuesday night. The sheriff’s office says its preliminary investigation shows a vehicle on County Rd. VIDEO: Permanently closed bar in Texas erupts in flames, has roof collapse, fire department says

San Antonio firefighters battled a fire at a permanently shut down bar on the city’s Northeast Side early Wednesday morning. The fire was called in just before 4:30 a.m. at what was previously Midnight Rodeo, not far from both Thousand Oaks and Nacogdoches Road. Firefighters said when they arrived they found the 25,000-square-foot building covered with heavy smoke.

Hyundai recall grows due to vehicle fires

Hyundai has issued a recall for certain model-year 2018 Santa Fe sport utility vehicles as the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration issues a consumer alert – park these vehicles outside – due to the potential for under-hood, ABS-based vehicle fires. This recall is in addition to another one issued in February 2022 for certain 2016-2018 Santa Fe models for the same issue.

Milwaukee's official Christmas tree was donated by a 93-year-old former Milwaukee firefighter

This year's City of Milwaukee Christmas tree arrived at its new home, Deer District, after being harvested Tuesday morning. The tree was donated by lifelong Milwaukee resident Erwin Boehme, 93, who said he planted the tree's seeds back in the mid-1980s on land he owned in Columbia County. When it grew to over a foot tall, he transferred it to the front yard of his Milwaukee home on North 58th Street.

De Pere apartment fire stemmed from exhaust fan

An exhaust fan fire caused about $10,000 worth of damage to a De Pere apartment complex Tuesday morning. Crews were called to 1015 Coral Street on the city's east side around 9 a.m. for a report of a fire in a second floor bathroom. All occupants safely evacuated and within minutes, crews extinguished the fire.

No danger to the public after chemical leak in Barron County

A chemical leak occurred at Jennie-O located in Barron County Monday morning. Highway 8 was temporarily closed and a temporary preventative shelter in place was implemented by the Sheriff’s Department, according to a social post via the Barron County Sheriff’s Department Facebook Page. According to a media release from the Barron County Sheriff’s Department, preventable shelter in place precautions that the Sheriff’s Department had out have been removed.

New York City artist gifts painting to FDNY members who saved his life after he went into cardiac arrest

Ray Trosa is a New York native hailing from Astoria, Queens whose mixed-media art style spans from large-scale paintings to lighting design. Back in April 2022, Trosa suffered a medical emergency and when members from FDNY Station 49 arrived, his condition worsened and he went into cardiac arrest.

Beaver Dam Fire Department Receives Grant From DNR

The Beaver Dam Fire Department recently received a grant from the Wisconsin Department of Natural Resources. The agency is getting $10,000 from the Forest Fire Protection grant program which is available to state fire departments and county fire associations. The money, along with funds from the Beaver Dam Community Fire and Rescue Association, will help the Beaver Dam Fire Department replace its 2003-year model UTV and skid unit.

Defibrillator campaign brings 84 new AEDs to Door County, almost doubling its previous number

Door County now has almost twice as many chances to help save the lives of people experiencing a cardiac episode because of the Door County Fire Chiefs Association's Defibs4DoorCounty fundraising campaign. The campaign, which started in February and ran through Labor Day, raised $79,898 and combined those funds with a $75,000 challenge grant from an anonymous donor for a total of nearly $155,000.

VIDEO: Firefighters battle fire at Kansas recycling plant

PHOTOS: Fire crews from both Sedgwick County Fire District 1 and the Wichita Fire Department are still fighting a fire at Evergreen Recycle in north Wichita. The fire broke out Sunday night in the 300 block of W. 53rd Street North. The fire was clearly visible on KSN’s SkyView camera. The Wichita Fire Department said a large mass of wood products was burning and that thousands of gallons have been dumped on the fire.

Boston firefighters help surprise teen with Halloween costume that fits his wheelchair

Jose Bello suffers from muscular dystrophy, which leaves him wheelchair-bound, but he also loves firefighters. This Halloween, his mother reached out to a company called Magic Wheelchair to get her son a costume.

Georgia fire department to offer virtual fire inspections
