In total, one fire truck, one ambulance and an alternative response vehicle were destroyed when Hurricane Ian’s storm surge busted into a firehouse that is now condemned.

VIDEO: The New Orleans EMS administered blood to a woman shot on Bourbon Street Sunday morning while she was still in the street. They say this is a rare ability for EMS services across the country and saves lives.
Thomas Mauro was the paramedic who gave her the blood using a Lifeflow device. He was able to get blood into the victim in just 10 minutes as opposed to the normal 40 or so minutes it can take to get victims' blood in a hospital.

Mike Bruenig has served on the Sauk City Fire Department for many years. Now, the Sauk City community is coming together to help serve him after he was diagnosed with a brain tumor.

Crews responded to a fire at a De Pere business overnight.
Firefighters were dispatched to the C.A. Lawton Company at 1900 Enterprise Drive around 12:30 a.m. Friday for a report of fire in the building with flames showing.
When first units arrived, employees were exited from the building and crews didn't see any smoke or flames showing from the exterior.

The driver of a reportedly stolen big rig out of Kern County was taken into custody Thursday after leading California Highway Patrol on a slow-speed pursuit on the 5 Freeway near the Newhall area.
The truck was traveling southbound on the freeway, going through Newhall and ending up near Castaic Lake, heading into the Santa Clarita Valley.

The New York City Council has passed historic legislation to improve equity, inclusion and diversity in the FDNY.
The legislation package requires the FDNY to report on its recruitment and retention efforts of firefighters of diverse racial and ethnic backgrounds.
The department would also have to survey firehouses and ensure they are equipped to serve a mixed gender workforce.

Michigan will be leading the country with new first-responder protocols involving sexual assault victims.
Governor Whitmer announced emergency responders will now be provided the opportunity to carry emergency contraception and post-exposure prophylaxis for sexually transmitted infections.
The plan announced Wednesday, will also provide EMS responders with sexual assault training.

Nobody was hurt, but a cabin near Mountain is a complete loss after a ground fire quickly spread Thursday night.
Six or seven fire departments were called to a brush fire along Maiden Lake shortly after 6 P.M. By the time firefighters could reach the area, the fire had overtaken the cabin.
Crews say the home was built on a hill so it was hard to get water up to it.

An Eden institution was heavily damaged by fire Thursday morning.
At about 9:07 a.m., Fond du Lac County deputies and Eden firefighters were called to Eden Meat Market, 115 E. Main Street, for a report of a bacon grease fire. Crews arrived to smoke and flames coming from the back of the building.
“They were preparing bacon at the rear of the structure here, and the fire that they use to create the smoke to smoke the bacon penetrated the floor into that bacon grease and the fire was on from there,” Eden Fire Chief Kyle Salter said.

Guests were evacuated Wednesday from a Lodi restaurant after a fire broke out in the kitchen, fire department officials said.

Virginia State Police is continuing to investigate a deadly crash and septic tank fire that resulted in road closures for Interstate 95 in Richmond.
At around noon on Wednesday, Nov. 2, state troopers were called to I-95 near the Belvidere Street overpass for a reported vehicle fire.
When units arrived, they found a 2007 Sterling Silver LT8500 septic truck fully engulfed in flames.

It's been a year since the Sacramento Metropolitan Fire District added advanced medical providers to its list of first responders. It's a sign of the times nationwide.
Scott Perryman is a battalion chief with Metro Fire.
"I started in Southern California as paramedic," he said.
Perryman loved medicine so much, he put himself through physician assistant school at Stanford.

Normally during November, Pasco County firefighters grow their mustaches to raise money for firefighters impacted by cancer. The mission is different this year as firefighters will raise funds for fellow firefighters impacted by Hurricane Ian.

Firefighters on Thursday morning, Nov. 3 responded to the scene of an apartment fire near 24th and Hampton. The call came in around 3:17 a.m.
Upon arrival, officers discovered a 52-year-old man that had burns from a small fire that started in the bathroom. The fire seems to be accidental. The victim was taken to the hospital with serious injuries.
