One dead after Amtrak train traveling from Chicago crashes into car in Brookfield

A person is dead after an Amtrak train traveling from Chicago crashed into a car in Brookfield on Thursday. Officials responded to the area of Brookfield and River roads around 5 p.m. on Thursday. Brookfield police say the driver of the vehicle, a man in his 60s, died. A preliminary investigation revealed the driver had driven around the train crossing gates, police say.

VIDEO: Large house fire causes estimated $350,000 in damage in South Carolina

Columbia-Richland Fire says no injuries have been reported in a large house fire reported on Thursday afternoon. According to a department spokesperson, the two-alarm fire was called in around 5 p.m. on Rusty Mill Drive - roughly three miles east of Pontiac in northeastern Richland County. About 50 fire department personnel responded to the fire, which displaced six people.

New York firefighter’s retirement brings an end to 100-year tradition

Michael Stanley was a part of the Schenectady Fire Department long before he officially joined its ranks in 1999. Firefighting, in fact, has been a tradition in his family dating back more than 100 years. Like many who answer the call to serve, the 47-year-old Stanley followed in the footsteps of his late father, Robert Stanley, who joined the department in the 1970s before retiring in the early 2000s as a deputy chief, capping off a 32-year career.

Kentucky fire department gets new tool they say will keep Ohio river safer than ever

'I thought I got hit by lightning': Middleton business owner in shock after car crashes through her storefront

A Middleton business owner says she's still reeling after a sedan crashed through her storefront on Tuesday. "The car just ran through and I was in shock," said Le Nails Salon & Spa Owner Anna Le. "I thought I got hit by lightning. Glass everywhere and glass start dropping. I was shaking and scared," Le says.

City Council OKs fire protection agreement with village of Superior

The Superior City Council approved an agreement Tuesday, Nov. 15, with the village of Superior to continue providing emergency response services in the village with the city’s fire department. What’s changed is the city is no longer charging for those services using a formula established long ago. Now, the city will charge the village $1,200 for each response.

Firefighters rescue lost hunter near Rhinelander

Firefighters rescued a lost hunter in the woods near Rhinelander on Wednesday night. According to a Pine Lake Fire Rescue Facebook post, the hunter was tracking a deer he shot when he lost the track in the woods and became disoriented. Firefighters were dispatched at 5:30 p.m. Wednesday for a reported hunter who was having difficulty breathing and was lost in the woods.

Firearm explodes at shooting range in Eagle, one sent to hospital

Three people were injured, and one was transported to a local hospital after a firearm exploded at a shooting range in southeastern Wisconsin. According to the Waukesha County Sheriff’s Office, at 11:12 a.m. on Wednesday morning, deputies alongside the Kettle Moraine Fire District were sent to McMiller Sports Complex in the town of Eagle for a report of three people injured due to a firearm exploding.

The Jamestown Fire and Police departments are looking into what caused the former Crawfords Furniture Factory to go up in flames on Wednesday. Jamestown Mayor Eddie Sundquist says the old building on Allen Street started on fire some time around 11:30 a.m. Jamestown Deputy Fire Chief Matthew Coon says the building went up in flames quickly and forced crews from multiple fire departments in Chautauqua County to help.

Tulsa Fire Station 33 displays new public art piece

Ram heavy-duty diesel pickups recalled for engine fire risk

Stellantis is recalling nearly 250,000 heavy duty diesel Ram pickup trucks in the U.S. because transmission fluid can leak and cause engine fires. The recall covers certain 2020 to 2023 Ram 2500 and some 2020 through 2022 Ram 3500 trucks. All have 6.7-liter Cummins diesel engines and 68RFE transmissions.
