In the case of an emergency, first responders say every second counts. It’s why local fire officials are encouraging people to install what’s called a Knox Box outside their homes to cut down the time it takes to get inside a home and potentially save lives.
In most cities, commercial building fire codes require safe boxes to be installed in businesses, but it’s not required for homes.

Speeding is believed to be a factor in a deadly crash over the weekend in the Township of Hancock, the Waushara Co. Sheriff’s Office reported.

Repairs on Interstate 95 are expected to take "months" after an elevated section collapsed in Philadelphia on Sunday morning when a tanker truck carrying flammable cargo caught fire beneath the overpass, officials said.

When Greg Rhinehart, a 37-year-old firefighter/paramedic at Portsmouth Naval Shipyard, woke up at 5:30 the morning of Jan. 7, he found he couldn't speak. Not a word.
Rhinehart, who was sleeping on base because he was on duty, was the victim of a stroke. But even as a paramedic, he said it took a while to put together the symptoms he was experiencing.

VIDEO: A new 20-minute video has been released by the Chemical Safety and Hazard Investigation Board involving the 2018 Husky refinery explosion and fire in Superior.
The goal of the board is to “drive chemical safety change through independent investigations to protect people and the environment.”
The 2018 incident injured 36 workers, caused roughly $550 million in damage to the facility and released 39,000 pounds of flammable hydrocarbon vapor into the air.

PHOTOS: A single-family home in Evansville is likely a total loss after an overnight fire, Chief Bob Fahey told 27 News.
Rock County Communications told 27 News the call for the fire on the 100 block of North Sixth Street came in around 3:45 Sunday morning.
Fahey says there were five people inside the home at the time of the fire, who were all able to escape.

Neighbors helped a resident escape off the roof of a home after a fire Thursday night in Beaver Dam.
The report of a porch fire came in to the Dodge County Sheriff’s Office around 7:25 p.m. on the 200 block of E. Third Street. Crews reported seeing the fire on the first and second floors of the home when they arrived.

Flames lit up the sky over southwest Phoenix Thursday night as firefighters battled a massive blaze that broke out at a wood pallet facility near 35th Avenue and Lower Buckeye Road.
According to Captain Todd Keller with Phoenix Fire, crews were called to the area around 8 p.m. after receiving a call about a fire coming from the business.
