It probably seemed like a good idea at the time. Detroit firefighters stopped their firetruck at a car wash to support a locally owned business. The Jet Spa and Ultra Wash on Second and Clairmount avenues is a vehicle detail shop with a grill next door.

Top officials with the city of Houston said the Fire Department needs a major shakeup on addressing hazardous materials.
A Houston Chronicle investigation reported Sunday the city doesn't know where most dangerous chemicals are, hasn't inspected more than three-quarters of the ones it does know about, and is still relying on paper records despite a sophisticated database.

VIDEO: Crews are called to a barn fire Wednesday in Chippewa County. Firefighters responded to the structure located on 320th Street in the Town of Delmar, which is northeast of Boyd, earlier Wednesday evening. Lebanon has fired its embattled fire chief after the city manager said the chief again failed to follow policies and procedures.
Capt. Steven Johnson was named acting chief, replacing Perry Gerome on Monday.

The North Carolina Department of Labor has fined Sherills Ford-Terrell Fire & Rescue in connection to the death of a rescue diver.
Newton firefighter, Bradley Long, died in early-June while searching for the body of a drowning victim in Lake Norman.
Long was working as part of the dive team at Lake Norman through Sherills Ford-Terrell Fire and Rescue to recover the body of Isaiah Cruz, who had drowned in the lake.

A Monday afternoon fire destroyed a 98-year-old barn at N101 Highway 59, in the town of Cold Spring, according to a Whitewater Fire Department news release. Estimated loss is $400,000, the release stated. All animals were out of the building when the first firefighters arrived on scene at 3:05 p.m. Ten fire departments provided assistance in battling the blaze while Whitewater police and Jefferson County deputies handled traffic control.
