De Pere Fire Department Kicking off 'Fill the Boot' Campaign

VIDEO: The City of De Pere Fire Department is kicking off their annual "Fill the Boot" fundraising campaign to help kids and adults with muscle-debilitating diseases. The "Fill the Boot" campaign has been a tradition for the department as they have now continued the campaign for over 60 years. Firefighters will be at the Festival Foods in De Pere with boots in hand asking pedestrians, motorists, customers and other passersby to make a donation to the Muscular Dystrophy Association.

Paramedics denied entry to Florida school where kids were dying

Former Washington firefighter's family suing drug companies

The family of a retired Kennewick firefighter and transit driver is blaming prescription opioids for his mental collapse. This week, they sued five opioid manufacturers and his Kennewick physician for malpractice and product liability. The lawsuit filed on behalf of William "Jean" Comstock, 76, claims medication prescribed for his chronic pain reduced the once engaging public servant to a psych ward patient "left to battle the horrors of a tormented mind for the remainder of his days.

California department loses only water tender after they say road beneath it collapsed

The Kneeland Volunteer Fire Department's water tender was totaled Monday after the road beneath it collapsed, causing the vehicle to crash down an embankment. The incident occurred while the agency was responding to a structure fire on Abbey Road in Bayside. The water tender moved aside and parked halfway on the narrow road and its shoulder to make way for an oncoming fire truck.

Today marks five years since Houston Fire Department's deadliest day in history

It was the single biggest loss of life in the history of the Houston Fire Department. Five years ago, the Southwest Inn fire ultimately claimed the lives of five firefighters. The four firefighters who died on the scene were Robert Bebee, Robert Garner, Mathew Renaud, and Anne Sullivan. In March 2017, Captain Bill Dowling, who lost both of his legs in the fire, died of complications from the injuries sustained in the line of duty.

Overtime at leaderless New York fire department climbs past $11 million

California city to settle fire captain discrimination suit for $450,000

A fire captain is set to receive a $450,000 settlement after suing the city and a former fire chief for discrimination. City Attorney Barbara Parker is recommending City Council approve the sum at its June 5 meeting, according to city documents. Capt. Joseph Torres filed suit in November 2015, alleging Chief Teresa Deloach Reed refused to promote him to battalion chief, even though he qualified for the rank.

New Hampshire governor to sign firefighter cancer treatment benefits bill

Gov. Chris Sununu said he intends to sign a bill that passed the House last week to allow firefighter cancer treatment benefits to be funded through worker’s compensation. Senate Bill 541 comes 28 years after a law was ruled unconstitutional that stated certain cancers are presumed to be work-related for firefighters, leaving firefighters with cancer to pay many of their costs out of pocket.

CHP officer calls firefighter he pulled from Northern California fire a hero

Milwaukee firefighter taken to hospital after blaze near 20th and Purdue

Delton Fire Department hires Kevin Foster as Captain

Firefighting is a family tradition for Captain Kevin Foster, the newest full-time employee of the Delton Fire Department. His great-grandfather, Ember Adams, served as a firefighter for the Delton Fire Department for 50 years. Eau Claire County emergency management launches mass severe incident alert system

Fond du Lac Division Chief Troy Haase earns prestigious certification

Division Chief Troy Haase recently attained the distinction as a Certified Fire Investigator IAAI-CFI from the International Association of Arson Investigators. The IAAI-CFI qualification is a standard evaluation of a fire investigator’s training and expertise. Firefighters get rope, rappelling training at Fort McCoy

Ten people with the Directorate of Emergency Services Fire Department completed 40 hours of training in the Ropes Rescue I course for technical rescue. The firefighters completed training on towers at the installation's Air Assault Course on the cantonment area. Altoona home damaged in fire

An early morning fire has damaged a home in Altoona. More than a dozen firefighters responded to the scene at 311 Saxonwood Road just before 4 a.m. Wednesday morning. When they arrived, they saw smoke and flames coming from the roof of the home. The Eau Claire Fire Department says everyone inside the home made it out safely, and the fire was quickly put out.

Dallas set to pay $173M in settlement for decades-old police, firefighter lawsuits
