Interview process underway for Holmen Area Fire Department Assistant Chief

VIDEO: The Holmen Area Fire Department Fire Board is moving ahead to fill the Assistant Fire Chief position. Steve Johnston, Holmen Area Fire Department Fire Board President, says the department received twenty applications for the position. Four finalists will be interviewed on Thursday and Friday. Johnston says the ideal candidate will be a "boots-on-the-ground" firefighter and an educator with strong leadership skills.

Racine Fire Department asking for tips after two suspicious fires

The city Fire Department is asking for any information the public may have following two suspicious vehicle fires that occurred early Thursday morning, including one that spread to a house. New Merrill Fire Chief formally introduced

The Merrill Fire Department searched across the country for a new fire chief. But the chief it picked ended up close to home. Josh Klug was introduced as the new fire chief at a badge pinning ceremony Thursday morning. He previously served as a firefighter in Merrill for 11 years before leaving for a new job in Mosinee in 2013.

Car fire spreads to home in Racine

A car fire was quickly put out in Racine before it extended into a home early Thursday morning. Authorities say they were called to the area near 11th St. and Davis Pl. around 3:11 a.m. When crews got to the scene, the fire was spreading to a nearby home. Firefighters were able to put out the fire before it got into the home.

Wisconsin suicide rate has increased 25 percent since '99, mirroring national problem

Brussels-Union-Gardner Fire stretches out in new station

Ohio fire chief announces retirement

‘Like dominoes’: Utah homes burn as wildfires menace U.S. West

A fast-moving brush fire destroyed eight homes in the Utah tourist town of Moab, while more than 3,000 people in Colorado and Wyoming fled multiple wildfires scorching the drought-stricken U.S. West on Wednesday. The blaze in Moab, known for its dramatic red rocks, started in a wooded area Tuesday night and quickly spread to homes over less than a square mile, police Chief Jim Winder said.

California Fire Department Goes Mini for Large Events

PHOTO - The UC Davis Fire Department has a new way to squeeze through campus crowds on its way to medical emergencies: a pint-sized ambulance. The six-wheeled, all-wheel-drive utility vehicle is roughly the size of a Mini Cooper but can carry EMTs and a patient on a full-sized cot through tight spaces or even off-road.

Iowa Volunteer Firefighter Accused of Driving Fire Truck while Drunk Resigns

A Humboldt volunteer firefighter has resigned after being accused of driving a fire engine drunk. Police say Jeffery Feaster was charged with operating while under the influence on June 6th. His resignation will go into effect immediately. Officers say he was responding to a 911 call when police on scene said he smelled like alcohol and was slurring his speech.

Paramedics pleased with faster response times out of new ambulance garage on Sugar Camp-Three Lakes border

Woman grabs dog in time to escape carbon monoxide-filled Madison house

A woman took herself to the emergency room early Wednesday morning after she had possible symptoms of carbon monoxide poisoning, but not before making sure her dog got out of the home as well. The woman's carbon monoxide alarm activated around midnight Wednesday, according to the Madison Fire Department.

Mike Stanley of Aurora, Colorado, takes over as chief of the Oshkosh Fire Department

Mike Stanley's new home will be his fifth ever and his first outside of Colorado. The past Aurora, Colorado, firefighter took over the job of Oshkosh fire chief this week from retiring longtime chief Tim Franz. His first day as chief was Monday. "(My wife and I) have been in the same house for 19 years, I've been at the same job for almost 22 years," he said.

Union leaders rallying for Mahlon Mitchell say this time different

California city receives $7 million donation to pay for replacement of fire stations

Two dilapidated fire stations in San Bernardino will be replaced thanks in large part to a record $7 million donation from the San Manuel Band of Mission Indians. New York Senator urges FEMA administrator to save firefighter jobs

Senate Minority Leader Charles Schumer urged the Federal Emergency Management Agency administrator to award the City of Newburgh a third grant that would prevent the layoffs of nine firefighters this summer. Schumer advocated for Newburgh’s Fire Department in a call last week to FEMA Administrator Brock Long as the agency considers whether to approve the city’s application for $1.

LODD: New Jersey firefighter dies of hepatitis C

A firefighter died Sunday of liver failure after contracting hepatitis C from blood transfusions he received for burns he suffered in a blaze many years ago. According to the U.S. Fire Administration, Perth Amboy Fire Department firefighter Douglas Ambrozewycz was working with Protection Hook & Ladder Company #1 to battle a blaze at a bakery in 1983 when he fell through the floor into the fire below.

Texas firefighters aid 55 people found in tractor-trailer

Authorities are investigating the scene where more than 50 suspected undocumented immigrants were found in a semi-truck on the Northeast side Tuesday night. The scene was located in the alleyway of the 8400 block of Greenbrier near Loop 410 behind the Greenbrier Apartments. This is just across the highway from the San Antonio International Airport.
