First responders in one Wisconsin city learn to speak Spanish

VIDEO: Almost a dozen first responders in the city of Racine recently completed an introductory Spanish language course tailored to their line of work. From January to April, once a week for three hours police officers and firefighter-paramedics go to the class, “Spanish for First Responders” at Gateway Technical College.

91-year-old donates $500,000 to rural volunteer fire department in Missouri

Cudahy firefighters rescue person that fell over lake bank, 50 yards down cliff

Cudahy firefighters rescued a person who had fallen down the lake bank near Allerton and Sheridan Drive on Sunday evening, May 5. Officials say the Cudahy Emergency Dispatch Center took a 911 call shortly after 8 p.m. Sunday. Police conducted a search of the area and established verbal contact with the victim.

Cat may have caused Madison apartment fire that displaced person, 5 pets

One person and their five pets had to find a different place to stay Friday night after a fire at an apartment on Madison's east side. Investigators believe that the fire may have been caused by a cat jumping onto a stovetop and activating a burner. There were items on the stovetop that caught fire.

VIDEO: Fire destroys building at greyhound park in Arizona

Tucson fire crews battled a huge fire at Tucson Greyhound Park early in the morning on May 4. TFD says units responded about 3:00 a.m. to the 2600 block of south 3rd Avenue for a commercial building fire. The building was identified as the former Tucson Greyhound Park in South Tucson. Tucson Fire says heavy fire conditions forced crews to take a defensive approach, as well as call in additional resources.

3 injured after fire department tanker collides with semi in Ohio

PHOTOS: Three people were taken to the hospital after a crash involving a local fire department’s tanker truck and a semi-truck in Canton Saturday morning. The crash happened around 10:27 a.m. in the 2800 block of Faircrest Street SW. According to Canton fire officials, an East Sparta Fire Department tanker truck was heading to a fire at the PSC Metals facility in Canton Township when it collided with a semi-truck, causing the semi to flip onto its side.

Georgia fire museum vandalized by ax-wielding man

Florida fire department puts donated money toward cancer-related initiatives

Governor Evers signs order to fly flags at half-staff to honor fallen Wisconsin firefighters

Governor Tony Evers has signed Executive Order #222, mandating the flags of the United States and Wisconsin to fly at half-staff as a tribute to firefighters who died in the line of duty. The order was announced in a press release issued on Thursday, May 2. Flags will be lowered on Sunday, May 5, in observance of the National Fallen Firefighters Memorial Service.

Western Lakes Fire District welcomes new ladder truck

Such is the case for Ladder Truck 53, which began serving the Oconomowoc area in 1997. Recognizable for its yellow color and Raccoon mascot on its bucket, the Pierce rear-mount platform truck has responded to numerous significant fires including the Baptist church explosion across from City Beach in 2008 and a five-alarm fire in downtown Oconomowoc in 2012.

Wausau Fire Department to hold live-burn training event next week

Beaver Dam Fire Department Earns ISO Rating 2

The Beaver Dam Fire Department has been awarded a Public Protection Classification of 2. The rating comes following a thorough review by the Insurance Services Office, or ISO, and is an improvement on the previous classification of 3 that was given in 2019. Beaver Dam Fire Chief Michael Wesle highlights several changes made since then that helped the department earn their 2 rating.

VIDEO: Large tractor-trailer fire closes portion of I-95 in Connecticut

PHOTOS: A major truck fire on I-95 south between exits 15 and 14 in Norwalk has shut down the interstate. State police say it happened around 5:30 a.m. The large fire involved a petroleum tractor-trailer, a tanker and a car. The tanker truck was carrying 8,500 gallons of petroleum, fire officials say.

Alabama governor signs proclamation recognizing Dothan as the state’s first HeartSafe City

Governor Ivey signed a proclamation recognizing Dothan’s HeartSafe initiative, Tuesday. Leaders from the Southeast Health Medical Center and Dothan Fire Department visited the state capitol for Governor Ivey to recognize Dothan as the state’s first HeartSafe city. The HeartSafe program has trained over 7,000 people for CPR.
