Anthony Burgard sworn in as Hartford’s new Fire and Rescue chief

PHOTOS: Anthony Burgard was sworn in as the new chief of the Hartford Fire and Rescue Department Wednesday during the city’s Police and Fire Commission meeting. Burgard, 41, was chief of the Richfield Volunteer Fire Company for the past four years. He started with that department in 2004. After taking the oath of office, administered by City Clerk Shanna Kreilkamp before a crowd of family, friends and colleagues, Burgard thanked those who helped him through life, "whether it be my family that physically raised me, my fire family that taught me (especially past Chief Terry Kohl of Richfield), and my beautiful wife and children that have helped support me and everything that I’ve done in the past.

No injuries in fire that destroys home, garage in Lincoln County

VIDEO: Authorities continue to investigate the cause of a fire that destroyed a home near Irma on Thursday morning. The Merrill Fire Department responded to the home located at N5621 State Road 107 in the Town of Rock Falls at 4:35 a.m. The fire caused a portion of Highway 107 to temporarily close. Merrill FD Battalion Chief Phil Skoug said in a news release that as crews arrived on scene, heavy fire was seen at the home along with an unattached garage.

VIDEO: 18-wheeler goes up in flames near gas station in Florida

Video showed an 18-wheeler go up in flames on a roadway in southwest Miami-Dade early Thursday. The truck's cab became fully engulfed in flames at the intersection of Krome Avenue and Southwest 200th Street around 3 a.m. The driver said he had been refueling the truck with diesel when he noticed it catch fire.

Fire Service Academy instructor in New York survives after training session goes up in flames

An instructor is recovering from some serious burns after an accident during a training exercise at the Nassau County Fire Academy. The fire, which happened Thursday morning, is considered an accident. It happened at the Nassau County Fire Service Academy during a set up for a training exercise on a mock boat-like ship.

One step at a time: West Virginia amputee firefighter overcomes obstacles

Green Bay electrical fire leaves 2 without a home, causes $90,000 in damage

Authorities in Green Bay say two people are without a home after an early Thursday morning fire caused an estimated $90,000 in damages. According to a release from the Green Bay Metro Fire Department, crews responded at 4:08 a.m. to reports of a house fire on 1229 Marquette Avenue. Once on scene, firefighters say all residents safely evacuated and they were able to see smoke coming from the one-story home.

VIDEO: Fire destroys RVs at dealership in Southern California

A fire destroyed more than a dozen RVs overnight Thursday at Mike Thompson's RV Super Store in Santa Fe Springs. Authorities responded to a possible burglary call at about 12:30 a.m. at the gated property on Firestone Boulevard in southeastern Los Angeles County near the 5 Freeway. Several RVs were in flames when firefighters arrived.

Georgia firefighter hospitalized after ‘accidental shooting’ at fire station, police say

A Union City firefighter was shot early Thursday morning and the shooting is now under investigation. A spokesman for the Union City Police Department said the shooting was accidental. They confirmed the firearm used did not belong to the injured firefighter. A representative for the fire department confirmed to Channel 2 Action News that the shooting occurred at Fire Station No.

House passes New Jersey Representatives-led bill supporting Fire Grants and Safety Act

On an overwhelming bipartisan 393-13 vote, the House passed a bill today sponsored by New Jersey Reps. Tom Kean Jr. (R-Westfield) and Bill Pascrell (D-Paterson) that re-ups a number of key firefighter grant programs. The bill, the Fire Grants and Safety Act, reauthorizes the U.S. Fire Administration, the Assistance to Firefighter Grants (AFG), and the Staffing for Adequate Fire and Emergency Response (SAFER) Grant; it also increases funding for the Fire Administration.

Augmented reality helping Illinois fire department practice fire safety

VIDEO/PHOTOS: Moline Fire Department has a new way to simulate a fire in any room and practice putting it out. The department purchased the FiAR training system, a device that uses augmented reality to test the user on operating a fire extinguisher properly. The device is a touch screen and mock fire extinguisher, which can place items like a grill, wooden pallets or a car into an environment and simulate different types of fires.

Milwaukee Fire Chief discusses new mental health initiative for firefighters

Coming full circle: Oconomowoc woman named Watertown fire chief after starting career in department

Waterford structure fire; crews face unexpected water supply challenge

Higher demand seen in Eau Claire emergency departments

For more than a month, healthcare workers in the area have been working to maintain the same level of care in the Chippewa Valley as there are now only two emergency departments. World Fire Congress: Firefighters from around the world collaborate in Washington, D.C., to keep citizens safer

Firefighters packed a conference room at the Hyatt Regency in Downtown D.C. on Tuesday for the inaugural World Fire Congress to collaborate and share information to better keep citizens across the world safe.
