Governor Tony Evers has signed Executive Order #222, mandating the flags of the United States and Wisconsin to fly at half-staff as a tribute to firefighters who died in the line of duty.
The order was announced in a press release issued on Thursday, May 2.
Flags will be lowered on Sunday, May 5, in observance of the National Fallen Firefighters Memorial Service.

The Beaver Dam Fire Department has been awarded a Public Protection Classification of 2. The rating comes following a thorough review by the Insurance Services Office, or ISO, and is an improvement on the previous classification of 3 that was given in 2019. Beaver Dam Fire Chief Michael Wesle highlights several changes made since then that helped the department earn their 2 rating.

PHOTOS: A major truck fire on I-95 south between exits 15 and 14 in Norwalk has shut down the interstate.
State police say it happened around 5:30 a.m.
The large fire involved a petroleum tractor-trailer, a tanker and a car. The tanker truck was carrying 8,500 gallons of petroleum, fire officials say.

Governor Ivey signed a proclamation recognizing Dothan’s HeartSafe initiative, Tuesday.
Leaders from the Southeast Health Medical Center and Dothan Fire Department visited the state capitol for Governor Ivey to recognize Dothan as the state’s first HeartSafe city.
The HeartSafe program has trained over 7,000 people for CPR.

A person was rescued after their car fell over the side of a cliff on the Angeles Crest Highway in La Cañada Flintridge on Tuesday morning.

A woman who was pulled from Lake Mendota by firefighters in the early morning hours last Friday died at the hospital, according to the Madison Police Department.
Spokesperson Stephanie Fryer said officers responded to Iota Ct. around 4:25 a.m.
Fryer said officers saw a woman's body in the water and immediately called for help from the Madison Fire Department's Lake Rescue team.

The Milwaukee Fire Department launched on Monday, April 29 a new initiative to provide first responders with essential mental health support.
A news release says the All-Hands Initiative, therapy sessions, fully funded by ITS, and facilitated by licensed mental health professionals from First Responders Psychological Services, LLC, will be available to firefighters starting May 1.

Officials with the Oshkosh Fire Department say they are launching a new fall prevention website in an effort to increase awareness of the risk of falls.
According to a release, Officials say the CDC has Wisconsin listed as having the highest fall death rates among older adults in the United States.
Locally, the Oshkosh Fire Department says a person over 60 years old suffering a fall is the most frequent incident type that they get called to respond to.

Fire crews are still on scene in Concord blocking off roads, several hours after a large fire gutted a commercial building.
The fire broke out near the BART station on East Street and Sunset Avenue. That is right across the street from the BART station and in a stretch of commercial buildings.
Overnight, the front part of the building collapsed in flames.

“I said, ‘You know, I want to get my picture taken in front of every fire department in the state,’” Hubie said.
In March, the Watertown firefighter completed his task. Over a decade, Hubie visited 775 fire departments – as best as he can tell relying on state records – every fire department in Minnesota.
