According to FHP, a 2010 International Bus carrying around 53 farm workers collided with a Ford truck. Troopers said ‘for reasons to be determined,’ the two vehicles collided in 'a sideswiped manner.

Lawmakers are considering spending $6 million to test the use of "sprint" paramedics in three northern Minnesota counties and confront the state's worsening rural emergency response.
The hope is that paramedics, roving the Iron Range and northwest lakes region in cars and trucks, could shave minutes off response times, and sort out calls that don't need fully loaded ambulances in the first place.

VIDEO: The Roswell Fire Department (RFD) is shifting to a new schedule designed to promote firefighter health and efficiency. Through a pilot program, firefighters will now work a 48/96-hour work cycle and will have a later start time.
The department made the move based on health risks associated with prolonged sleep deprivation, including cardiovascular diseases, cancer, and mental health disorders like PTSD and anxiety.

VIDEO: An Appleton firefighter who was shot and killed five years ago is being honored with a week of memorial activities.
Mitch Lundgaard was shot on May 15, 2019, while rendering aid to a man who suffered a drug overdose on a bus at the Valley Transit Center. He was 36 and a 14-year veteran of the Appleton Fire Department.

The first round of Canadian wildfire smoke of 2024 is currently
impacting the region. Air quality will be in the Unhealthy for
Sensitive Groups (USG) to Unhealthy PM2.5 AQI categories. Smoke
will continue moving from northwest to southeast behind a cold
front, and is expected to eventually impact the entire state later
today. Moderate to Unhealthy for Sensitive Groups (USG) AQI PM2.5
concentrations are anticipated today before transitioning back
toward Moderate to Good AQI later today into Tuesday. The current
Air Quality Advisory will be updated this morning after the
situation is reassessed. Since the air quality index could reach
the UNHEALTHY level, people with heart or lung disease, older
adults, and children should avoid prolonged or heavy exertion.
Everyone else should reduce prolonged or heavy exertion.

PHOTOS: A firefighter seriously injured while responding to a deadly house fire last month returned home from the hospital Friday afternoon.
The Milwaukee Fire Department announced Ryan McMenamin was released Friday afternoon from Ascension St. Mary's Hospital. McMenamin suffered serious burns when he got trapped fighting an April 14 fire.

A family was able to escape a destructive blaze that took down their home in Orono on Sunday.
Three family members were inside the home when the fire began just before 7 p.m. All of them were able to safely escape the burning structure along with the family dog, an emergency responder on the scene told KARE 11.

VIDEO: The Colorado Springs Fire Department is working to bring the responsibility of ambulance services to them, instead of relying primarily on private companies.
This is something Fire Chief Randy Royal and Colorado Springs Mayor Yemi Mobolade have said has been in the works for a while.
On social media, CSFD posted a statement from Chief Royal announcing that they will go before City Council on Monday to present their proposal.

The Evansville native attended UW-Eau Claire with plans to focus primarily on his academics. But he soon learned of a public-service opportunity from a peer in his chemistry course about becoming a firefighter for the Altoona Fire Department.

PHOTO: The Newburg Volunteer Fire Department recently acquired a shiny new fire truck.
According to NVFD Lieutenants Tony Scholten and Chuck Roethke, the department got the new truck in April, but has only used it for trainings thus far. The truck features a 3,000-gallon tank, which is larger than any of the other vehicles the department uses, as well as a pump that allows firefighters to spray the water directly from the truck, without needing a hydrant.

PHOTOS: Anthony Burgard was sworn in as the new chief of the Hartford Fire and Rescue Department Wednesday during the city’s Police and Fire Commission meeting.
Burgard, 41, was chief of the Richfield Volunteer Fire Company for the past four years. He started with that department in 2004.
After taking the oath of office, administered by City Clerk Shanna Kreilkamp before a crowd of family, friends and colleagues, Burgard thanked those who helped him through life, "whether it be my family that physically raised me, my fire family that taught me (especially past Chief Terry Kohl of Richfield), and my beautiful wife and children that have helped support me and everything that I’ve done in the past.

VIDEO: Authorities continue to investigate the cause of a fire that destroyed a home near Irma on Thursday morning.
The Merrill Fire Department responded to the home located at N5621 State Road 107 in the Town of Rock Falls at 4:35 a.m. The fire caused a portion of Highway 107 to temporarily close.
Merrill FD Battalion Chief Phil Skoug said in a news release that as crews arrived on scene, heavy fire was seen at the home along with an unattached garage.

Video showed an 18-wheeler go up in flames on a roadway in southwest Miami-Dade early Thursday.
The truck's cab became fully engulfed in flames at the intersection of Krome Avenue and Southwest 200th Street around 3 a.m.
The driver said he had been refueling the truck with diesel when he noticed it catch fire.

The fire, which happened Thursday morning, is considered an accident. It happened at the Nassau County Fire Service Academy during a set up for a training exercise on a mock boat-like ship.
