Safe Haven baby boxes will be starting to pop up in southeast Wisconsin as a result of a bill signed late last year by Gov. Evers.
The bill allows mothers—no questions asked-- to anonymously relinquish their newborns by placing them in boxes that are installed outside of hospitals, police departments and fire stations.

Firefighters are using some heavy-duty equipment to get inside of the soybean dryer. They said it took hours to put out the flames, and on Tuesday, they were keeping a close eye on it since the facility was still smoldering.

An Iowa man who missed a share of Saturday's $1.3 billion Powerball jackpot by just one number has claimed his consolation prize.
Trent Baker, a 37-year-old firefighter from Newton, matched the first five numbers of Saturday's drawing (22-27-44-52-69), but missed the Powerball (9). He's one of seven players across the county to do so, winning $1 million.

VIDEO: Norfolk Southern has agreed to pay $600 million in a class-action lawsuit settlement related to last year's fiery train derailment that affected East Palestine, Ohio.
The company said Tuesday that the agreement, if approved by the court, will resolve all class action claims within a 20-mile radius from the derailment and, for those residents who choose to participate, personal injury claims within a 10-mile radius from the derailment.

Authorities in Wisconsin say two employees at the Kohler Company Carriage House were hurt after a fire broke out Monday night.
According to a release, Crews responded at 6:45 p.m. to the Kohler Company Carriage House at 501 Highland Drive after the Sheboygan County Dispatch Center was made aware of a report of smoke on the building’s fourth floor.

The Richfield Volunteer Fire Company (RVFC), after 125 years of service, has voted to dissolve its current nonprofit organizational status and transition to a municipal fire department, 25-1.
Village President John Jeffords said there are still a few steps left in the process, but the transition is coming and will be undertaken in the least disruptive way possible.

The New York State Police said its troopers stepped in to assist fire crews with a huge house fire.
NYSP said Troop A- Lockport Troopers helped with the devastating house fire on Royal Pkwy North in Lockport.
The troopers broke down the door rescued a dog and assisted with the fire hoses.

Drug users and dealers who recklessly expose first responders to fentanyl and cause them to overdose will now face additional penalties thanks to a new law signed by Governor Ron DeSantis Monday. Body camera footage from August of last year, captured a Flagler County Sheriff’s Deputy suffering a suspected fentanyl overdose after handling narcotics that later tested positive for the substance.

A fire burned through several units of an under construction housing development overnight on Sunday. The Phoenix Fire Department responded to multiple homes burning at 59th Avenue and Baseline Road around 11:30 p.m. Flames could be seen from the Loop 202.
At least 75 firefighters responded to control the blaze, which was upgraded to a second-alarm at one point during the night.

A collector from New Mexico posted on Facebook last week that he bought an old fire truck and, after tracing some of its history, discovered it belonged to Bloomington beginning in the 1950s.
Fred Fuecker, a 23-year volunteer firefighter, says he served on the truck in 1968.

The increased traffic and spectacle of the total solar eclipse on Monday could imperil motorists, with researchers warning that fatal collisions increased during previous eclipses and law enforcement bracing for the event.
There was a 31% increase in fatal traffic accidents during the 2017 total eclipse – and even in the days before and after the astrological event – according to a letter published in the JAMA Internal Medicine journal this week.

A dramatic and stubborn fire erupted at a commercial building in downtown Los Angeles, prompting an early morning response from firefighters.
The blaze began shortly before 5:30 a.m. at a single-story structure in the 1400 block of South Main Street.
Firefighters arrived at the scene and were initially in defensive mode as massive flames and smoke emanated from the roof of the building, according to the Los Angeles Fire Department.
