Waupaca Area Fire Department gets pet oxygen mask donation

Pets are family. Now firefighters in Waupaca will be better equipped to help furry friends during a fire. The Waupaca Area Fire District has received new pet oxygen masks. They were donated by Invisible Fence's Project Breathe Program. “Animals tend to hide in a fire and owners can’t always find their pets,” says Waupaca Area Fire District Safety Officer Tim Banaszak.

House fire in Green Bay displaces two people

Two people were displaced from their home after a fire Tuesday night in a duplex on the city’s west side. Fire crews responded to the fire around 7 p.m. in the 400 block of Silver Spring Drive, according to the Green Bay Metro Fire Department. The first units on scene saw heavy smoke and fire coming from the living room windows.

Firefighter union, Michigan city negotiate new contract before expiration for first time in 25 years

The City of Ann Arbor and the firefighter union agreed Monday night to new collective bargaining terms before the expiration of the current contract for the first time in 25 years. City Council voted 8-1 to approve the contract March 2 at Larcom City Hall, 301 E. Huron St. Council also voted unanimously to approve a new contract with the police department deputy chiefs.

Minnesota's Press Bar fire: Charging documents show detailed timeline of firefighting efforts

Proposed legislation to reduce costs for volunteer firefighters and EMT’s in Illinois

Republican State Senator Jason Barickman of Bloomington along with Democrat Ram Villivalam from Chicago are sponsoring legislation to help volunteer firefighters and EMT's with a $500 tax credit. Metamora Fire Chief Mike Sluga said he hopes this new tax credit could help boost recruitment. Metamora's Chief Sluga has been on the job for almost 40 years.

One person dead in Sheboygan fire

The Sheboygan Fire Department says one person died after a fire on the city's northeast side. The victim's name was not released. At about 9:50 p.m., Sheboygan firefighters were dispatched to a report of a fire in the 400 block of Michigan Ave. Firefighters arrived on scene to find heavy fire coming from the second floor of the building.

Fire at Oshkosh senior living facility injures resident

A resident of a senior living facility in Oshkosh was taken to the hospital after a small fire. Firefighters were called to Marian Manor on Merritt Ave. just before 3 p.m. Monday. The first crew on scene reported smoke on the second floor. A small fire was confined in one of the units and it was quickly extinguished.

Fire caused $52M in damage; New Jersey town says new rules will prevent another arson

Developers who are looking to build new projects in Bound Brook will now have to pay for increased security measures at construction sites after a destructive Main Street fire in January that investigators have said was purposefully set. The borough committee last week unanimously passed the new ordinance, which will be added to its construction code, that will require developers to have 360-degree motion detectors and video surveillance, along with a physical security guard, on-site at all times once there are flammable materials, like wood, at the property.

Arizona fire station may close in May due to labor dispute

Southwest Ohio lawmakers introduce alternate PTSD treatment bill for first responders

A pair of southwest Ohio lawmakers want any workers compensation claims for a first responder’s post-traumatic stress disorder to be paid from the state’s unclaimed funds program. A bill submitted for introduction by Ohio Reps. George Lang, R-West Chester Twp., and Niraj Antani, R-Miamisburg, offers an alternative proposal to the first responder PTSD bill overwhelmingly supported last month by the Ohio House.

Fire department in New Mexico aims to help firefighters with stress management after traumatic calls

Promoting literacy in the digital age; Utah firefighters read to students on Read Across America day

Fire chief says 30-foot flames engulfed De Pere garage

Towering flames engulfed a garage in De Pere early Monday morning. The garage is considered a loss, according to the De Pere Fire Department. At about 2:46 a.m., De Pere firefighters responded to an address on N. Adams Street off Ridgeway Boulevard and Webster Avenue. Crews arrived to find a two-stall detached garage in flames.

Kenosha firefighters put out fire in wall at downtown apartment

Kenosha firefighters responded to a report of a fire in a wall at a downtown apartment building Sunday morning. The fire was reported shortly before 10 a.m. at 609 58th St. by the woman who was inside the room, according to Battalion Chief Ken Schroeder of the Kenosha Fire Department. According to Schroeder, the person had been burning incense in the room and apparently fell asleep when she awoke to the fire.

Several Washington state firefighters exposed to coronavirus, IAFF union reports

The International Association Firefighters (IAFF) and the Washington State Council of Fire Fighters (WSCFF) issued a joint statement reporting that several firefighters have been exposed to the virus. The statement reports that members from Kirkland Fire, Redmond Fire and Woodinville Fire had been exposed to the coronavirus, and were isolating themselves for evaluation.

Iowa: New tool created by Des Moines fire engineer helps first responders

VIDEO: Falls happen on ice, in homes, and outside. When EMS and fire crews respond, Des Moines Fire says it's easy for them to get hurt when lifting someone that has fallen. That's why Jeff Downing, an engineer with Des Moines fire, created the Jak Harness. "I felt the need to create this because in recent years we've been going on more and more calls of people that have fallen down and they're not injured and they can't get up," Downing said.

Nebraska first responders could get training, help with PTSD under bill advanced by Legislature

First responders in Nebraska would be offered annual “resiliency training” to help combat and cope with post-traumatic stress disorder under a bill given initial approval by state lawmakers on Wednesday. State Sen. Mike McDonnell, a former Omaha fire chief, said that 1 in 4 firefighters on average will visit an emergency room during their career for physical injuries on the job.
