Kansas fire investigators could soon get law enforcement power

A bill is being discussed in a Kansas Senate committee Tuesday that would give fire investigators law enforcement powers in the state. This means, if an investigator encounters a crime in progress, they would have the legal right to pull-over, detain, and even arrest someone. The Kansas Fire Marshal, Doug Jorgensen, made clear during his testimony in favor of the bill that investigators would not be conducting traffic stops.

Here's how a battlefield-inspired blood transfusion cooler is saving lives in Upstate South Carolina

A few Upstate ambulances are now carrying a cooler that can save lives. The No. 1 cause of preventable deaths that ambulances deal with is loss of blood, said Aaron Dix, Prisma Health's executive director of emergency medical services. If someone has a severe gunshot wound or hemorrhaging or has been in a severe accident, they could lose blood faster than an ambulance can get them to a hospital, Dix said.

Firefighters respond to box-level residential fire in village of Windsor

Firefighters are responding to a residential fire in the village of Windsor on Tuesday night. Dane County dispatch said it received a call at 6:55 p.m. for a report of a structure fire on the 3400 block of Heatherstone Ridge. Officials said a box-level alarm has been issued, meaning multiple agencies have been sent to the scene.

Fond du Lac Fire/Rescue delivers Dominos pizza on Firetruck Day

According to Fond du Lac Fire/Rescue, they have partnered with the local Dominos to deliver pizzas to nine lucky customers on Wednesday between 5 p.m. to 7 p.m.

Part-time volunteer first responders need coverage, too: Legislation en route to provide PTSD compensation

Legislation that would give full-time first responders compensation for post traumatic stress disorder diagnosis is gaining momentum in the Senate and Assembly, but coauthor state Sen. Patty Schachtner said she hopes it won’t stop there. Senate Bill 511 and companion Assembly Bill 569, both backed with bipartisan support, are good places to start, according to the Somerset Democrat; however, they leave a large demographic out of the mix.

Valley Transit GM says no injuries reported in Appleton-area bus fire

The Appleton Fire Department is investigating a fire on a Valley Transit Bus. Firefighters say the fire occurred on South Schaefer Street, south of Calumet Street, Tuesday. According to the Valley Transit route map, the area the fire occurred is serviced by the Route 8 Telulah line. Valley Transit Center General Manager, Ron McDonald, reports no one was injured in the fire and bus routes have not been significantly impacted.

Partnership with EMS agencies could increase tissue donation in Indiana

Fire lieutenant in Connecticut suspended for setting live fire in training exercise, injuring a fellow firefighter

A fire lieutenant used bad judgment when he tried to make a training exercise more realistic and ended up starting a blaze that injured a fellow firefighter, Fire Chief John Oates said Monday. Lt. Doug McKeon, a 21-year department veteran, was suspended without pay for 14 days in January and February, according to a disciplinary letter released after a Freedom of Information request.

Green Bay Metro Fire Department gets large donation from Reach-A-Child

Reach-A-Child helps first responders comfort children in crisis through books, giving them a tool that makes it easier for a child to cope in scary situation. 22 reach bags will be placed on the fire trucks and other department vehicles.

Beloit Fire Department pays tribute to former firefighter

The City of Beloit Fire Department paid tribute to one if its own who died after falling in a parking lot and was struck by a vehicle in a Monday morning post on Facebook. On Saturday, police identified the 76-year-old man as Charles “Jim” Cheadle. The fire department noted Cheadle, an Air Force veteran, was one of the very first firefighters to complete its paramedic program.

No one injured in Waukesha house fire

Firefighter, resident identified in fatal Pennsylvania fire

The Cumberland County Coroner’s Office has released the names of the two people killed Monday morning in a fire in Monroe Township. Jerome Guise, 34, of Boiling Springs, was a firefighter with the Mount Holly Springs fire department, Coroner Charley Hall said. Guise was killed when the front porch of the home on the 1500 block of Boiling Springs Road collapsed while he was fighting the fire.

FDNY firefighters won’t be dispatched to potential coronavirus cases

The FDNY won’t dispatch its firefighters to potential coronavirus patients, leaving its paramedics and EMTs to handle them alone, The Post has learned. The department issued an order Friday temporarily relieving firefighters from responding to calls of the second highest priority for patients with fever, coughing, difficulty breathing or even those who are unconscious.

Proposed shuffling of fire-rescue staff in Virginia concerns residents

Some residents in northeast Albemarle County are concerned about a proposal to move daytime fire-rescue staff farther away from their area. After Parkland tragedy, Florida Senate OK's panic buttons to simultaneously alert staff, first responders

Ron DeSantis legislation Friday that requires panic buttons at every school, the latest security measure being implemented on campuses after the Parkland school shooting two years ago that killed 17. Milwaukee first responders, dispatchers take precautions amid corona virus concerns

Dan Tyk at North Shore Fire & Rescue said his firefighters and EMS are handwashing before and after every call, and they're disinfecting all equipment weekly -- if not daily.
