South side Milwaukee fire station to be closed as part of 2021 budget

The Milwaukee Fire Department plans to close a south side fire station in 2021, a reflection of the tough financial spot the city is in. The decision follows the closure of six stations as part of the 2018 budget. At this point, the "leading candidate" to be shuttered is Station 17 at 4653 S. 13th Street, Fire Chief Mark Rohlfing said.

New law will give South Carolina firefighters battling cancer some financial support

Art on call: DC's historic police and fire call boxes transformed

The first installations of these boxes began as early as the 1860s. Firefighter call boxes were connected to a central call station and emergency responders would receive a telegraph of which box to dispatch to.

San Diego paying out $3.4 million to 700 firefighters for underpaid overtime

San Diego agreed this week to pay $3.4 million to more than 700 city firefighters to compensate them for underpaid overtime they should have received several years ago. The payout comes six months after the city reached a similar legal settlement with more than 2,300 other city workers for the same kind of underpaid overtime.

COVID-19 emergency field hospital opens in Milwaukee area

Researchers determine more effective ways to awaken children and their families during a house fire

Robot Used For First Time To Put Out Huge Fire At Downtown Los Angeles Textile Business

Home owner suffers burns in Manitowoc house fire

New Orleans firefighters already feeling impact of furloughs: 'It's going to get worse'

The first New Orleans firefighters were furloughed on Sunday under a plan requiring six unpaid days off by the end of the year to help stem a precipitous decline in city sales tax revenue during the coronavirus pandemic. Feds Defund 9/11 First Responder Health Program

The federal government removed funds to the World Trade Center Health Program to settle debts with the city over several years.
