Only 3 states report declines in new coronavirus cases as the US hits its highest daily rate in 2 months

Only three US states are reporting a decline in new COVID-19 cases compared to last week, as the country hit its highest daily rate of new cases in almost two months. As of Saturday night, new cases were down in Texas, Missouri and South Carolina, while 21 states reported a rise in cases and a little more than half held steady compared with the week before.

Volunteer firefighter injured in overturned New York firetruck

Pilots fly hot air balloons in Michigan to thank those working during the pandemic

PHOTOS: A dozen hot air balloon pilots were in the air over Battle Creek Saturday to thank those working during the pandemic. The flight was part of a world-wide effort by balloon pilots to honor front-line workers. Called "Lifting Spirits Around the World," the flights were to say to front-line workers "that we are all very grateful and thankful for them," according to Tom Brown, one of the organizers of the Battle Creek flight.

Milwaukee's outgoing fire chief reflects on his tenure; 'work that matters'

Garage fire reported in Janesville

PHOTO: Fire destroyed a detached garage shortly after 1 p.m. Saturday on Janesville’s near east side. Firefighters were called at 1:08 p.m. to 460 Glen St. Battalion Chief Ryan Murphy said no one was injured, and a cause was not immediately determined. The garage, with two cars inside, was engulfed in flames when Janesville firefighters arrived.

Madison: Corn dryer fire causes $420k in damage to Matcafe Brothers Farm

The Janesville Fire Department says an estimated $420,000 in damage was caused by a corn dryer fire at the Metcafe Brothers Farm Saturday. The JFD and Milton Fire Department were dispatched to 5300 block of E. County Trunk MM for a corn dryer fire. Additional resources were requested and the JFD worked with farm personnel to extinguish the fire and unload remaining corn from the dryer.

Multiple fire crews respond to large egg farm fire near Palmyra

Multiple fire crews responded to a large fire at an egg farm near Palmyra early Saturday morning, Oct. 3. According to a Facebook post from Palmyra Public Safety, it happened in the W200 block of State Highway 59. Officials say the building is a complete loss. There were no injuries to citizens, firefighters, and animals.

ATF offers $5K reward for information about persons of interest in Kenosha arson investigations

The Milwaukee office of the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives (ATF) is offering a $5,000 reward for information about persons of interest in the Kenosha arson investigations. Several Kenosha businesses and vehicles were set ablaze between Aug. 23 and Aug. 25. A reward of up to $5,000 is being offered for the positive identification of individuals in videos and photos who could further the investigation.

Wisconsin National Guard provides wildfire support in California

Two flight teams from the Wisconsin Army National Guard’s 1st Battalion, 147th Aviation Regiment, 64th Troop Command traveled from Madison to Sacramento, California to help with the recent wildfire outbreak. According a release, the teams traveled in early September more than 1,700 miles and it took almost four days.

Groundbreaking for new fire station in Rothschild

The Riverside Fire District will soon have a new station. A groundbreaking was held Thursday afternoon for the new building. All the vehicles and equipment from their current station on Schofield Avenue will be moved into one central location in the new building. The current station two on Alexander Avenue in Rothschild was built back in 1959.

3 displaced by Madison apartment fire, firefighters credit sprinkler system with putting out fire

Crews were dispatched to the Carbon Apartments at Union Corners just before 5 p.m. Thursday night for a report of thick black smoke coming from under the door of a second-floor apartment.

Two displaced after Bellevue house fire

Two people were displaced from their home after a fire in Bellevue Thursday night. At about 9:30 p.m., firefighters responded to a fire at 2219 Moonrise Ct. Flames were showing from a home at that address. Crews put out the fire, which started in the chimney area, according to the Green Bay Metro Fire Department.

New York App Alerts You If You Come Near Someone With Coronavirus

New Yorkers can now download a free app to their smartphones that will alert them if they come near people who test positive for COVID-19, the disease caused by the coronavirus. Gov. Andrew Cuomo announced Thursday the launch of the state's new COVID Alert NY app. New Jersey, Connecticut, Pennsylvania and Delaware will offer their own versions of the app as well.

‘She Said It Was Fun’: 31-Year-Old Woman Arrested After Allegedly Taking Firetruck On Joyride In California

Officers with the Riverside Police Department had a woman in a pink dress stand up outside their patrol car for witnesses to identify after she allegedly stole a fire truck and took it on a joy ride Thursday night. The 31-year-old woman is suspected of stealing a Riverside Fire Department truck and taking it on a joyride while first responders were handling a life-threatening medical emergency.

Arizona fire department has new program to end growing suicide rates nationwide

The City of Glendale has a new peer support program they hope will help end suicide growing rates among firefighters. The program is one of the first of its kind in the state, addressing nationwide statistics that firefighters are more likely to die by suicide than on the job. One hundred twenty times a day, that’s the amount firefighters here in Glendale are called to duty.

Missouri firefighters make fire safety videos in honor of Fire Prevention Month

Springfield firefighters have released a series of videos in honor of Fire Prevention Month. According to the City of Springfield, the videos will be released throughout October on the Springfield Fire Department’s social media pages. Must see: 1969 documentary on Maryland volunteer firefighters

A very cool historical look at the volunteer fire service in Maryland from WMAR-TV in Baltimore. The half-hour documentary is from October 10, 1969 and has film from fire companies in a number of counties throughout the state. There is also a section on University of Maryland’s Fire Service Extension, the forerunner to Maryland Fire and Rescue Institute.

Waupun approves ambulance contract: Some needs beyond city's ability to pay

Truck driver found guilty in 2018 crash that killed Virginia firefighter

A tractor-trailer driver was found guilty of involuntary manslaughter and reckless driving in Hanover County Circuit Court on Wednesday for a 2018 crash that left Hanover County Fire & EMS Lt. Brad Clark dead and several other firefighters injured. The driver, Lester Labarge, faces up to 11 years in prison when he is sentenced.
