A former Kansas City firefighter believes he’s developed a product that could be a game-changer in getting COVID-19 vaccines to people at the temperatures in which the doses need to be stored.
On Tuesday, Edward Collins gave FOX4 an exclusive, behind-the-scenes look at his company, Vaccine Pods.
“We assure that these vaccines are making it to the end user and the shot in the arm and the proper temperature the entire time,” Collins said.

A piece of Sheridan history will soon return home.
According to Sheridan Fire-Rescue Chief Gary Harnish, a 1919 American LaFrance Fire Engine used by the city more than a century ago has been located more than 2,000 miles away in Surfside Beach, South Carolina. Even better, the Surfside Beach Fire Department is dedicated to helping the fire engine return home, and Harnish said he is excited for the engine to become part of the Sheridan community again.

On Millers Bay Tuesday afternoon, Oshkosh firefighters are prepared for a call they never want to get.
“This is one of those low volume calls, but it’s very high risk,” Public Information Officer John Holland told Local 5. “So for us, the more training we do, the better.”
When that call does come in, Holland says the department needs to be ready.

Five people died this weekend after three fatal fires Saturday, Jan. 23, in Wisconsin.
They were in Fort Atkinson, Grant County and Washington County. Five people died, and three of the victims were children.
“It’s unfortunate that somebody does lose their life in these fires but we have to make sure that their deaths aren’t in vain," West Bend Fire Captain of Fire Safety Kenny Asselin said.

A Grant county family has lost another child after a house fire over the weekend.
With the death of 14-year-old Barbara Hurley, the house fire in Blue River is now the deadliest in Grant county, in Sheriff Nate Dreckman's memory.
"I don't know if we've ever had this many, we've had a few over the years that I've been here but not with three," he said.

An FDNY firefighter was knocked unconscious when an air conditioner fell from a window and struck him in the head while he was battling a Brooklyn blaze on Monday morning, sources said.
The shocking incident took place outside a home in Bensonhurst and sent the smoke eater from Ladder 172 to the hospital where he was in serious condition, according to FDNY sources.

After 36 years of service, a new Maritime Emergency Response Vessel is in the works with the help of a $750,000 allocation from Washington state.
Last week, South King Fire and Rescue announced the department received the final contract appropriating $750,000 from the 2020 Washington state operating budget to pay for a major portion of the new fire rescue boat.

The Merrill Fire Department said a driver was rescued after crashing their vehicle onto the ice of Wisconsin River Monday morning.
Around 8:30 a.m., the Merrill Fire Department responded to the crash on the Wisconsin River near the 2000 block of W. Main Street in Merrill.
Merrill Fire Chief Josh Klug said Lincoln County Dispatchers were able to keep the driver calm and advised him to not move around in the vehicle.

One person is in the hospital after La Crosse emergency crews rescued the person near Grandad Bluff. The incident happened around 4 p.m. Sunday afternoon. La Crosse police asked La Crosse fire crews for help finding the person on the bluff, according to the La Crosse fire department.
Fire crews performed a technical slope evacuation to bring the person to safety.
