VIDEO: Las Vegas Fire & Rescue (LVFAR) says a two-alarm fire destroyed a vacant wedding chapel and caused an estimated $1 million in damages Tuesday night. The building was located near the STRAT on South Las Vegas Boulevard.
Authorities say several 911 calls were received reporting thick smoke coming from a “large white building” at 1431 South Las Vegas Boulevard.

Two dogs perished in a house fire reported shortly after 12:30 p.m. Tuesday, according to the Onalaska Fire Department.
Onalaska firefighters responded to a report of smoke coming from a neighbor’s house in the 400 block of Fifth Avenue North, according to a department news release.
Smoke was coming from the eaves, and windows were charred and cracking, the report says.

New parents in Wisconsin who don’t feel ready or able to raise their newborn child can still give those infants a chance at a new life without the fear of legal repercussions.
The state’s Safe Haven, or infant relinquishment, law allows parents to turn over a baby to certain qualified individuals within 72 hours of them being born, with limited exceptions and without legal consequences.

The Menasha Health Department announced on Tuesday that they have vaccinated Neenah-Menasha Fire Rescue Emergency Medical Responders (EMR) personnel.
Health officials reported that EMR personnel are included in phase 1A vaccination plans prompting their vaccination on Tuesday.
Nancy McKenney, Menasha Public Health Director shared, “Neenah-Menasha firefighters are designated as certified emergency medical responders or higher.

Cheers filled the halls at Theda Care Hospital in Neenah on Monday as Ripon fire chief Tim Saul said goodbye after 34 days of fighting COVID-19.
“A lot of people didn’t think I was going to make it.”

A Hamilton County Sheriff's deputy was checking on what he thought was an abandoned vehicle in a wooded area Saturday night, but his quick action might have saved a woman’s life.
Newly-released body camera footage shows the life-saving efforts of the deputy, who discovered the woman passed out and having a medical emergency behind the wheel of her burning car.

Illinois Senate passes law extending protection measures for first responders and essential workers for another six months.
The law established back in the spring allows essential workers and first responders to file for workers' compensation benefits if they contract COVID-19 during the course of their employment.

VIDEO: The state is warning people that Christmas tree burning is not permitted at the Kaneohe Bay sandbar and they’re promising enforcement of any violators.
State conservation officers got a tip Saturday about a tree bonfire, but were unable to identify those involved. Video posted online showed a tree burning gathering with a large number of people with no masks or social distancing.

Fresno firefighters are kicking off what could be another record breaking year.
“Last year we had a huge record number of fire, everything, homeless specifically we saw like a 95% increase,” Shane Brown with the Fresno Fire Department said.
The new year is not bringing any relief. Brown said so far there have been 223 fires in the city and 123 have been caused by homeless activity — A 71% increase from last year.

VIDEO: Three people were rescued from a large piece of ice that broke loose in the Bay of Green Bay Monday.
It happened shortly before noon in the Town of Scott.
The Brown County Sheriff’s Office says the three people were fishing when a large chunk of ice, more than a mile long, broke off from the shore and stranded the anglers.

A group of long-term care residents can now see their families thanks to an iPad donated by Whitehall firefighters. It’s used by residents to video chat with friends and families as they can’t have in-person contact during the pandemic. First responders will be next up for the distribution of the COVID-19 vaccine in Wisconsin.
That announced Monday by state health officials who expect all 30,000 eligible police and firefighters will be able to get the vaccine if they so choose.
This comes ahead of any formal announcement on who will receive phase 1B of the vaccine distribution.

Fond du Lac Fire/Rescue says the cause of a Monday morning duplex fire is under investigation, but doesn’t appear to be suspicious.
At 7:12 a.m., crews were called to 220 6th St. They found fire in a second floor ceiling.
The fire was contained and crews continued with salvage and overhaul.
Fond du Lac Fire Chief Peter O’Leary says the fire caused “moderate damage” to the unit.

Eight people were displaced from their home after a fire in Appleton early Monday.
At about 3 a.m., the Appleton Fire Department was called to 1415 West Summer St. The fire departments says heavy flames were coming from the back of the house.
It took crews about 30 minutes to get the fire under control.

VIDEO: Multiple people were transported to local hospitals on Sunday afternoon, after Indianapolis fire officials said a woman ran a red light and crashed into a fire engine, causing a multivehicle accident crash on the east side.
A 21-year-old woman driving a Ford Fusion eastbound on 10th Street failed to yield and struck an oncoming fire truck heading north on Arlington Avenue that had its sirens and lights activated, according to a news release from the Indianapolis Fire Department.

Fire fighter occupational cancer is the leading cause of line-of-duty deaths in the fire service. In 2019, more than 75% of the names of fire fighters added to the IAFF Fallen Fire Fighter Memorial Wall of Honor in Colorado Springs, Colorado, were of members who died from occupational cancer.
In partnership with the Firefighter Cancer Support Network (FCSN), the IAFF has designated January as Fire Fighter Cancer Awareness Month to provide fire fighters the necessary tools and guidance to develop life-saving protocols for cancer prevention and to support those with a cancer diagnosis within their departments.
