Georgia Fire Captain Leads Pledge Of Allegiance at Inauguration, Spoken And In Sign Language

Andrea Hall, a career firefighter and union leader from Fulton County, Ga., led the Pledge of Allegiance during the inauguration of President-elect Biden. Hall recited the familiar words of the pledge out loud and in American Sign Language. According to The 19th, a nonprofit news organization, Hall was the first Black woman hired and assigned to a station at the City of Albany Fire Department, and then the first Black woman to serve as fire captain at Fulton County Fire Rescue.

Florida fire department buys technology that shares patient info in real time to hospitals during emergencies

State of the art technology that can help save lives when seconds count is now in Southwest Florida. A patient’s information can be sent directly to a doctor in real time. We learned how this will help evaluate medical emergencies before arriving at the ER. North Collier Fire Control and Rescue District recently bought new technology that helps paramedics get patient information to hospitals before they show up.

University of California Irvine Scientists Working on COVID-19 Vaccine That Would Attack All Strains

UC Irvine scientists are working on developing a vaccine that would attack all strains of COVID-19 as well as a potential breakthrough that would solve many of the problems related to distributing the medicine, a UCI professor on the project said Thursday. Lbachir BenMohamed, a UCI School of Medicine professor, said his team is developing what they envision will be a vaccine that could work on all strains in the SARS-CoV-2 family.

Honor365 exhibit recognizes first responders, celebrates 20 years since 9/11

Young adults who turn 19 this year were born after 9/11, the day in 2001 when planes flew into the World Trade Center and Pentagon killing around 3,000 people. These teens know it as Patriot’s Day. It has been 20 years this coming September since the U.S. was attacked by air and hundreds of first responders, some fallen heroes, answered the call of duty to help at Ground Zero.

Oshkosh to test new fire prevention tool

The Oshkosh Fire Department is joining a national pilot program that uses the latest technology to collect data, analyze the risks for a potential fire, and help the fire department educate neighbors about those risks. 'One of those happy endings' to start 2021: Newborn baby in Waterford meets firefighters who helped to deliver her

Raelynn Wankowski is only 10 weeks old, and she already has been to her first reunion. The newborn and her parents, Justin and Rachel Wankowski, went to the local firehouse Wednesday to reunite with the firefighters who helped to deliver Raelynn into the world. It was the first baby delivery in the nearly 70-year history of the Tichigan Volunteer Fire Co.

Two helicopters called for vehicle versus tree crash in Prairie Lake Township

Three people were seriously injured when a pickup crashed into a large tree at 9-1/2 Avenue and 21st Street in Prairie Lake Township around 4:30 p.m. on Wednesday, Jan. 20. Two helicopters were called in to airlift two injured occupants. At the scene, a Ford F-150 pickup had collided head-on with a large pine tree.

Hudson House Fire Leaves Man Dead, Woman Hospitalized

A house fire in western Wisconsin on Wednesday night left a man dead and a woman hospitalized. The Hudson Police Department says officers and fire crews responded around 6:30 p.m. to the fire at a single-family home on the 400 block of Locust Street. When they arrived at the home, they found it fully engulfed in flames.

Follow-up: American Red Cross housing 25 residents from Menasha fire

The American Red Cross is providing temporary lodging for 25 residents from 14 units that were affected by Wednesday’s apartment fire in Menasha. According to a release, the American Red Cross is presently providing comfort, temporary lodging, food and health resources to those that were affected by the fire.

14th and Indiana once had a fire station called Sheboygan Fire Company No. 2

The city was growing and needed additional fire protection in the 1890s. There were calls made to build a second fire station. Back in October 1892, according to a newspaper clipping from the 1890s provided by Katie Reilly of the Sheboygan County Historical Research Center, the city decided that a new fire department house would be built by the city on the south side of the river.

California Firefighters See Red Over Plan to Deactivate, Close Stations

Oakland, Calif., will begin deactivating some of its fire engines and shuttering stations temporarily on Thursday in a budget-cutting move that drew criticism from firefighters and neighboring communities that contract with the city for fire protection. The fire department will deactivate three engines for six days at a time over the next five months, effectively closing three of the city's 25 stations, each of which operate with one engine.

Health of Ohio firefighters at forefront with new Columbus Fire Station 16

Could Utah become first state to create EMS teams specifically for mental health emergencies?

A lawmaker’s proposal to make Utah the first state to train emergency medical technicians specifically for responding to mental health emergencies received early support in a state Senate committee Wednesday. SB53 would allow EMTs and firefighters to be trained to respond to mental health calls. Then, agencies throughout the state could form teams made up of those trained EMTs, who would be dedicated specifically to mental health emergencies.

Mixed chemicals used to drain sink cause toxic fumes to fill Madison home

Toxic fumes caused the occupants of a Fieldwood Road home to get sick Friday after they mixed chemicals to clear a sink drain. Engine Co. 11 and Medic 4 with the Madison Fire Department responded to the 6900 block of Fieldwood Road just before 4 p.m. on Friday, according to an MFD report. When crews arrived, the residents said they had tried to use sulfuric acid to clear a sink drain.

Rural New Jersey firefighters donate much-needed equipment to rural Alabama town

Firefighter Hunter Space left his Beemverville Fire Department in Wantage with a pick-up truck full of firefighting gear. After a 14-hour ride, he arrived at the firehouse in rural Vance, Alabama. The trip was to donate the gear his fire department in Sussex County could no longer use to the southern department in need.
