Driver killed after tanker truck falls off I-595 ramp in Florida, explodes

VIDEO/PHOTOS: The driver of a fuel tanker truck was killed after, authorities said, the vehicle fell off a ramp on Interstate 595 in Davie and exploded. Florida Highway Patrol and Davie Fire Rescue units responded to the scene of the crash near the Florida Turnpike, at around 3:45 p.m., Sunday. Investigators said the driver was heading westbound when he struck the concrete wall on the right shoulder and flipped over.

California Firefighters Begin 40-Day 9/11 Memorial Ride Cross-Country To New York City

About a dozen local firefighters are about to embark on a long journey to mark the 20th anniversary of the 9/11 attacks. “We got 42 days until 9/11,” said Batt. Chief Buck Buchanan, a retired LA County firefighter. “I’d really like to see a groundswell of patriotism come back.” Buchanan helped organize the cross country bike ride that got underway Sunday at the Santa Monica Pier and was expected to take 40 days to reach New York.

Devastating fire struck Illinois Elks Country Club in 1968

PHOTOS: The rambling stone clubhouse at Elks Country Club along the Kankakee River northeast of Aroma Park was engulfed by flames on the morning of Dec. 5, 1968. Ironically, the building was destroyed less than 24 hours after serving as the site of a banquet honoring the man who had been the club’s golf pro for the preceding 20 years.

Arsons on the rise since 2020 in and around Baton Rouge, but fire investigators aren't sure why

Firefighters doused the blaze before it tore through the rest of the building, but the damage was done. The Violet Street apartment fire late Tuesday drove 10 people — six of them children — out of house and home. A few days later, another apartment erupted in flames. This time, a few miles northward, just off Plank Road and south of Highway 190 in Baton Rouge, where firefighters again beat it back before it could spread and before it could hurt anyone.

Final call for Rome fire chief killed in home explosion

A 35-year veteran of the Rome Volunteer Fire Department died Tuesday, July 27 in a house explosion in Jefferson County. It was just before 2 p.m. Tuesday when 911 calls started coming in about the house explosion that left pieces of the home everywhere, even stuck up in trees. Sadly, one man, Mike Revolinski, who spent decades helping others in the community, died in the blast.

Flight instructor dead, pilot injured following plane crash in Hartford

Kaukauna family faces nearly $40,000 worth of damages after garage fire, no injuries reported

A Kaukauna family is facing an estimated $40,000 worth of damages after a fire erupted in their garage on Friday night. According to the Kaukauna Fire Department, at around 9 p.m., firefighters responded to a home located in the 1900 block Augustine Street for reports of a fire. Upon arrival, crews say they discovered a detached garage filled with smoke, which was also leaking from the soffit.

House fire in Racine, no injuries reported

Racine Fire Department was dispatched to a home near Yout and Charles around 7:15 p.m. for a report of black smoke coming from the second-story window. Upon arrival, crews initiated a fast attack through the front door and encountered heavy heat and smoke conditions. Flames were encountered in the first-floor kitchen area and the fire was knocked down and loss was stopped approximately 25 minutes from the initial dispatch.

Helicopter crash near Friesland leaves one injured

A crop duster helicopter struck power lines Saturday at 10:14 a.m. and crashed near Friesland in Columbia County. Initial investigation has revealed that the helicopter was crop dusting when it attempted to go under high power lines. The helicopter struck the power lines and crashed a short distance beyond.

Driver seriously injured in Sheboygan County after losing control of his SUV

A 21-year-old man was transported by helicopter to ThedaCare Regional Medical Center in Neenah after being ejected from his SUV. It happened around 9:40 p.m. on Thursday, July 29 near W. County Road A and Forest Dr. in Plymouth, Wisconsin. The Sheboygan County Sheriff’s Office said the man lost control of his SUV, and his injuries are believed to be life threatening.

After a cargo plane’s ‘amazing’ water landing, this Honolulu rescue team jumped into action

Navy Sailor charged for fire started on USS Bonhomme Richard in California, destroying warship

VIDEO: The U.S. Navy said Thursday that charges have been filed against a Navy Sailor who is accused of starting the July 2020 fire that destroyed the warship while it was docked in San Diego. According to Cmdr. Sean Robertson, U.S. 3rd Fleet spokesperson, the evidence collected during the investigation is sufficient to direct a preliminary hearing for the sailer who was a member of Bonhomme Richard’s crew at the time of the fire.

Study: 9/11 first responders with highest exposure to toxic dust at risk of liver disease

Twenty years after the devastating attacks on September 11, doctors are still uncovering the fallout from the destruction of the World Trade Center. In a new study, researchers at Mount Sinai Hospital in New York have discovered a link between the toxic dust coming from Ground Zero and liver damage. Their findings show that the earliest first responders on the scene have an even higher risk of fatty liver disease than others in the area after the terror attacks.

Former Rome fire chief remembered as a 'super good guy'

Mike Revolinski is being remembered as a “super good guy” who always wore a smile on his face. Revolinski, who perished in Tuesday’s house explosion and resulting fire in the Village of Rome, was a former chief of the Rome Fire Department who had served in that capacity for about 10 years. “He would do anything for anybody—(he was) very, very helpful,” said family spokesman Kevin Broedlow, brother-in-law to Mike and Sharon Revolinski who had resided at the home destroyed in the blast.

Fire in Fond du Lac home blamed on candle left burning

Fond du Lac Fire/Rescue says a candle was left burning when no one was home, causing a fire that damaged part of a house on County Rd. V Thursday afternoon. The fire department says smoke detectors alerted people nearby, who called 911. Firefighters were able to limit the fire damage to one room, while there was smoke damage to other rooms.

Hudson firefighters respond to gas leak downtown

Hudson Fire Department was on the scene late afternoon July 28, 2021, after a gas leak was reported. They closed off the Second Street from Walnut Street to Coulee Road, and made certain everyone was safe. Hudson Police advised residents to avoid the area in a Facebook post. The cause of the leak was under investigation.

Fire destroys house near middle school in Utah

VIDEO/PHOTOS: A fire that officials say started from welding sparks destroyed a house in Hurricane on Wednesday afternoon and for a time threatened Hurricane Middle School and the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints’ seminary building. There were no injuries and by 4:58 p.m., the fire was contained.
