A kitchen fire Thursday displaced a family of five and caused thousands of dollars in damage to a Sun Prairie duplex, authorities said. Family members were cooking in their duplex in the 2000 block of Wisconsin Avenue when a "mishap" lead to the fire, Sun Prairie Fire Chief Christopher Garrison said.

Fire crews from Wisconsin are working on a couple fires burning in northern Minnesota. Dry conditions have led to a couple of small wildfires near the Boundary Waters Canoe Area Wilderness. A family is safe after their home caught fire in Kiel Wednesday night during a storm. The Kiel Fire Department was called to the 600 block of 10th Street for reports of smoke and flames.
