Whether it’s a day that makes you beg for air conditioning, or it’s just a beauty from mother nature, it’s not always the temperature outside that’s a concern for firefighters.

Jefferson County home explosion, retired firefighter killed

VIDEO: A retired Jefferson County firefighter died as a result of an explosion at a home in the Town of Rome on Tuesday afternoon, July 27. Emergency crews were dispatched to the scene moments after the explosion – shortly before 2 p.m. Officials say the debris field from the explosion was roughly a full city block.

Fire destroys Dorr County's Egg Harbor field

Approximately 16 acres of wheat and a combine were lost in a fire Monday afternoon. According to the Egg Harbor Fire Department, they were dispatched just before 2:15 p.m. to the report of a large grass fire approximately 300 feet from a residence. The first units were on the scene nearly 10 minutes later and called in for help from the fire departments of Ephraim, Sister Bay/Liberty Grove, Baileys Harbor, Jacksonport, Gibraltar, and Luxemburg, Door County Emergency Services, and Door County Sheriff’s Department.

Wisconsin's COVID-19 testing numbers decline as new positive cases spike

New positive cases of COVID-19 continue to surge in Wisconsin. The state reported 349 new confirmed cases Monday. That's the most new cases in a seven-day stretch in Wisconsin since May. The seven-day average has been rising for 20 straight days. But those numbers may not tell the whole story. Health officials said a decline in testing numbers are a concern.

Blaze destroys vacant Louisiana home, spreads to former business; firefighter hospitalized

VIDEO: Fire investigators are working to determine the cause of a blaze that destroyed one building and damaged another. Dispatchers got the call just after 12:15 a.m. regarding a fire at a vacant home in the 200 block of Vine Street. Firefighters spent more than an hour working to extinguish the blaze at the vacant home.

All New York City workers—including cops, firefighters, teachers—must be vaccinated or tested weekly, mayor says

All municipal workers for the City of New York will now be required to get vaccinated or submit to weekly coronavirus tests, Mayor Bill de Blasio announced on Monday. With the delta variant of the virus pushing the case number up, the mayor said it was time to take further steps to enhance the COVID safety protocols.

Utah fire department gets three new engines; old trucks to be destroyed

PHOTO: On Monday, Logan City Fire Department held a ceremony to commemorate the addition of new fire trucks. Logan City Fire Chief Brad Hannig said the traditional “push-in” ceremony is a throwback to the bygone days of fighting fires. “Back in the history of fire departments, they used to have to push the wagon back in because they were horse drawn,” he said.

Massachusetts firefighters celebrate final days of nearly 140-year-old station

Coon Valley firefighters extinguish blaze engulfing semi-tractor cab

The Coon Valley Fire Department extinguished a blaze that ruined a semi-tractor cab shortly after noon Monday in Coon Township. The Vernon County Sheriff’s Office 911 Dispatch Center paged the fire department at about 12:15 p.m. about the fire at the intersection of County Hwy. B and County Hwy. KK. The cab was engulfed in flames when the fire crews arrived, but all units — Engine 1, Squad 1 and Tender 1 — were clear within about an hour, according to a news release.

Follow Up: Washington County house explosion, natural gas-related

When a man in the Town of Barton heard an explosion Friday night, July 23, he ran into the home without hesitation to save his elderly neighbor inside. The Washington County sheriff says he's a hero who likely saved his neighbor's life. That neighbor says it was just the right thing to do. Jeff Dreher said he heard the explosion, thinking a tree had just fallen on top of his home.

Explosive Fire Rips Through New Jersey Apartment Complex, Displaces 75 Residents

Minnesota lawmakers celebrate high-rise sprinkler bill, plan to push for funding

On the day before Thanksgiving in 2019, a fire tore through the 14th floor of Cedar High Apartments in Minneapolis. Five people died in the fire. State fire marshals determined sprinklers could've prevented the tragedy. It led to calls for changes to state and federal law. Apartment fire in Racine, cause under investigation

The Racine Fire Department responded to the area of Mt. Pleasant Street and William Street early Sunday morning, July 25 for an apartment fire. The call came in around 6:45 a.m. The fire was called in by a Racine firefighter driving from Racine Fire Station 3 to Racine Fire Station 2 at shift change.

Investigation underway to determine cause of Brillion duplex fire

Firefighters say no one was injured during the early morning hours Saturday when a fire broke out at a duplex in Brillion. According to the Brillion Fire Department, crews were called to the 400 block of Pagel Avenue at 12:34 a.m. for a report of a fire. When they arrived, officials say light smoke could be seen coming from the living room of the residence into the garage area.

Explosion, house fire near West Bend leaves two people severely burned

The Washington County Sheriff's Office is investigating an explosion and house fire that happened in Barton near West Bend on Friday, July 23. Officials were notified of the incident at a single family residence near Norman and Jeanellen around 8:18 p.m. Friday night. "At approximately 8:21 p.m. last night we got dispatched for the report of an explosion.
