Crews battle fire at Lawrence building for children with emotional problems

VIDEO: Firefighters are battling a fire at a business that helps children and young people with emotional and behavioral problems. The scene is located at Macht Village Programs in the 3300 block of Mid Valley Drive in Lawrence. A large amount of smoke could be seen from I-41 in Brown County. Drivers called to report the fire.

VIDEO: Residents of Northern Illinois city voice concerns after massive blaze spews apparent chemicals in air

There will be an update Thursday afternoon after a massive fire erupted at the Carus Chemical plant in La Salle Wednesday morning. Some neighbors have concerns. The residential neighborhood around the plant appears to have been covered with chemicals. A shelter-in-place was ordered for several hours as a precaution, but has since been lifted.

Truck 5 arrives: Arkansas fire department shows off new equipment

Lake Delton elementary student receives award after helping family escape fire

Tomah Fire Department crews welcome help to keep fire hydrants clear

Tomah Fire Department crews always keep a snow shovel handy. "We carry shovels in all our trucks," department chief Tim Adler said. "I carry a shovel in my own personal response vehicle." The shovels are needed to clear fire hydrants. Last month's snowstorm illustrated the challenge firefighters face when response time often includes digging their way to a buried hydrant.

'This is for public safety': Proposed Marshfield referendum asks for $1.1 million to hire 9 more firefighter paramedics

VIDEO: The city of Marshfield may see a referendum to help fund public safety. This comes after the police department saw $160,000 cut from its budget, with the fire department needing to add service fees to help with the deficit. The proposed referendum asks for $1.1 million from taxpayers, to pay for another nine firefighter paramedics and one police officer.

Officials in one southwest Louisiana city finalize pay matrix for firefighters at special meeting

New York: US officials announce new national strategy to fight fires inspired by deadly Bronx blaze

Fire protection district in Missouri implements cyanokits in ambulances

Lake Ozark Fire Protection District is working to equip cyanokits on their ambulance and trucks. The district has one. It’s kept in the ambulance should it be needed. ”I found out that we didn’t have it, and with us being a fire ALS (advance life support) Transport Agency, it’s not only crucial for the citizens we serve, but it’s crucial for our own folks,” said Deputy Chief Marc Carr.

Ohio fire department closes baby box due to 'outdated' department of health regulations

VIDEO: The Union Township Fire Department is closing its Safe Haven Baby Box due to "burdensome" and "outdated red tape" from the Ohio Department of Health, Union Township officials said in a press release.
