Brown County Dispatchers use text, video to improve emergency response

VIDEO: Brown County dispatchers now have the ability to text and live video chat during emergency 911 calls. With a push of a button, Brown County dispatchers can now send a live video link to help in emergency situations with a new program called Prepared Live. “They’ll be able to turn on that live stream… and we’ll be able to look for some landmarks or things like that, that we may be able to better send better locations to send responders to,” said Cullen Peltier, Brown County’s director of Public Safety Communications.

Follow Up: Firefighter mourns loss of his brother Lake Mills Fire Chief Todd Yandre

People in Lake Mills are grieving for Fire Chief Todd Yandre after he died suddenly in the line of duty. Family and friends remember their fallen hero at a place close to his heart, a place where he provided decades of public service. "His passion was the fire department and training future firefighters," Yandre's brother, Mark Yandre, said.

2 homes damaged in Milwaukee fire

Firefighters on Friday, Feb. 17 responded to the scene of a house near 41st and Burleigh in Milwaukee. The call came in shortly after 4 a.m. A house started on fire and spread to a second residence. The cause of the fire is under investigation, but it does not appear suspicious. Two individuals reported minor injuries.

Appleton retirement community surprises firefighters, EMS with ‘Random Acts of Kindness’

Residents at Primrose Retirement Community in the City of Appleton spent Thursday giving gift cards and other treats to firefighters as part of their random acts of kindness initiative. Firefighters and first responders out of Station 6 are reportedly the first to respond to medical emergency calls at Primrose, and officials say now is a good time to celebrate them for all they do.

Fire Department in Antigo gets new child transport device

VIDEO: Ambulance crews in Antigo have some help when taking care of young patients. A special security strap allows then to secure and transport pediatric patients. Up until now they've been using car seats, since traditional stretchers are made for the average adult. While most calls are for adults, they do occasionally need to take a child to the hospital.

Building declared a total loss in Palmyra fire

PHOTOS: Palmyra emergency responders have declared a building a total loss after a fire broke out overnight. Crews were dispatched to the fire on Tower Road in the Town of Palmyra around 12:10 a.m. Thursday, according to a Facebook post from Palmyra Public Safety. When firefighters got there, they found the building fully engulfed and quickly called for help from other surrounding fire departments.

VIDEO: Ohio apartment building destroyed in large fire

Nearly 20 crews are at the scene of a large fire at an apartment complex in Willoughby Friday morning, according to Willoughby Fire Chief Todd Ungar. The building was completely destroyed. The fire is at the Chagrin Riverwalk complex on Mentor Avenue between Erie Street and Kirtland Road. Ungar, who is at the scene, said no one was inside the building when the fire started.

Traversing through the smoke: Women on the frontline of fires and hardship in Iowa

Wichmann was interested in shadowing a paramedic, so she went on a few ambulance ride-alongs in Johnson County. The Lake Mills Fire Department is mourning the unexpected death of Fire Chief Todd Yandre, who served the department for more than four decades. Lake Mills Fire Department stated that Yandre’s death in the line of duty Wednesday evening was unexpected and initial reports indicate the cause was a cardiac event.
