Neenah apartment fire injures two, displaces about ten people

Neenah-Menasha Fire Rescue were called to an apartment complex called “Neenah Court” at 2112 Marathon Avenue on March 5. When crews arrived, they encountered a working fire in an apartment on the second floor, according to Adam Dorn, Assistant Chief/Fire Marshal with the Neenah-Menasha Fire Rescue. Firefighters were alerted to the blaze by an officer, who had heard the alarm of the building go off.

VIDEO: Driver Dies in Maryland Tanker Explosion, Family's Home Destroyed in Fire

A tanker carrying flammable liquid exploded on U.S. Route 15 in Frederick, Maryland, Saturday, killing the driver and damaging nearby homes and cars. One family with children escaped the flames but lost their home. U.S. Route 15 was closed for hours as firefighters battled the flames and a large brush fire and a hazmat team worked to contain a hazardous spill.

Bill could help New Mexico's career firefighters pay healthcare costs

New Mexico has more than 2,000 career firefighters across the state, according to an analysis by the Legislative Finance Committee. And legislators are eyeing a bill to help cover their healthcare costs. House Bill 495, a bipartisan bill, would create a new fund for firefighter healthcare. The bill would allow firefighters to access up to $5,000 per year to pay for insurance, deductible, etc.

When a firefighter dies on duty: 24 hours of life and death for some of Oregon’s bravest

The last day of Brandon Norbury’s life began when he clocked in at 7 a.m. for a 24-hour shift at Station 31. Norbury, a Gresham firefighter for 15 years, had reported for a new assignment that morning, Feb. 3. Station 31, which is near the Portland-Gresham border and responds to calls in both cities, is one of the busiest in the metro area, and Norbury felt like he was coming home.

University of Massachusetts warns of TikTok drinking trend

The University of Massachusetts is warning about a TikTok drinking trend after 28 ambulances were summoned to off-campus parties. Students were observed Saturday carrying jugs with a mixture of alcohol, electrolytes, flavoring and water, dubbed “blackout rage gallons,” or “BORGs," in a binge-drinking trend gaining traction on TikTok, officials said.

One person displaced, substantial damage after structure fire in Appleton

Smoke came from the roof and the vents of a single-family home at 801 W. Hawes Avenue in the City of Appleton when firefighters responded to a call in the early morning hours of March 5, 2023. Crews entered the building and were able to extinguish flames and hot spots within 45 minutes. One adult male was not injured, but displaced from his home by the fire.

Janesville kitchen fire causes thousands in damages

An early morning fire at a Janesville home caused an estimated $95,000 in damages. Firefighters were dispatched to the home on North Pine Street just after 3 a.m. on Sunday, according to the Janesville Fire Department. Officials say everyone was out of the two-story home by the time they got there, and no one was hurt.

Fort Atkinson Fire Department rescues 2 people who fell into lake while ice fishing

The Fort Atkinson Fire Department rescued two people Thursday night after they fell into a frozen lake and one got trapped under the ice. Crews were dispatched around 8:45 for a report of two people who fell into Lake Koshkonong, one of whom was trapped under water. Crews arrived at the lake several minutes later, and one of the people had already made it out of the water to the shore.

Eau Claire fire chief announces retirement

After decades with the Eau Claire Fire Department, Chief Chris Bell has announced his retirement. According to a press release on Friday, Chief Bell's last day with the battalion will be April 30, 2023. Bell rose through the ranks during his 26 years with the department. He started his career in 1995 as a volunteer with the fire department then in 1997 he joined the department full time.

Madison fire crews contain gas leak after crash damages gas line, meters

Madison fire crews contained a gas leak Wednesday after a gas line and meters were damaged in a crash, officials said. Crews were called to an apartment in the 4300 block of Britta Drive just before 8:14 p.m. on Wednesday after a vehicle struck a building. A gas line and four natural gas meters were damaged in the crash.
