The Peshtigo Fire Museum held a commemorative event to honor those who perished. The fire devastated 1.2 million acres of land, and the museum continues to preserve its history, shedding light on why this tragedy is often overshadowed by the more famous Chicago Fire, which occurred on the same day.

A Milwaukee home was damaged by fire early Tuesday morning, Oct. 8. Crews were called out to the area of 11th and Ring shortly after 4 a.m.
Brandon Hobson owns the home. While assessing the damage, he said he’s grateful his tenants got out.
"The cops were here, the fire marshal, they were trying to get everything," Hobson said.

Crews have contained a wildfire that broke out Tuesday afternoon in Oconto County and burned approximately 10 acres of woods.
The "Bear Paw" fire began around 2 p.m. in a remote wooded area near Lower Dam Road by Mountain.
The Wisconsin DNR and local fire departments worked to suppress the fire.
"We'll be out here tonight [Tuesday], still mopping up, until we are comfortable with where we're at for containment.

As the Tampa Bay area braces for Hurricane Milton's landfall, officials with Tampa General Hospital announced they have opened their incident command center and implemented their preparedness plan.
That plan includes setting up their "aquafence," a water-impermeable barrier that can withstand storm surge up to 15 feet above sea level, and stocking important supplies at all of their locations.

Fire crews from the Wisconsin Department of Natural Resources and local agencies contain a fire that burned about 6.5 acres at Roche-A-Cri State Park in Adams County.
The Stairway Fire began in late Sunday afternoon at the park on top of the Roche-A-Cri Mound stairway.
The fire burned mostly leaves and pine needles.

A group of Wisconsin firefighters are waiting to see if they’ll be deployed to Florida to help with rescue and recovery efforts in the wake of Hurricane Milton.

A massive multi-alarm fire destroyed a Catholic school building in Springfield Township, Delaware County.
The call came in around 5 p.m. Monday for flames showing from the St. Francis of Assisi School, which is located on Saxer Avenue.

A Walworth County community is shaken after a large house fire on Saturday night, Oct. 5.
The fire started just before 6 p.m. in a rural area east of Elkhorn.
