VIDEO: The Kenosha Fire Department is facing a challenge hitting many communities in trying to find enough people to fill vacant positions.
As recently as five years ago, the department said they would have more than a thousand applicants for each yearly recruiting class, which consists of about 18 members.

One person is safe after a mobile home caught fire early this morning in Oconto County.
Fire swept through the home on Whipporwhill Lane at about 5:30. The property is about a mile off Highway 41, in the town of Pensaukee. The person who lived here got out.
The flames were out but the building was still smoking when our Action 2 News crew arrived on the scene at about 6:30 a.

Mineral Point Fire Department Captain Brian Busch and Jim Ludlum were killed when a semi hit their fire truck on the highway.

A massive overnight fire in Washington Park destroyed two houses and damaged a third home. No serious injuries are being reported; however, one firefighter was treated at the scene for heat exhaustion.
It all happened on Portland Place, not far from Route 111 and north of I-64. Authorities told FOX 2 the two homes that were destroyed were both vacant, the third home which is damaged was occupied.

VIDEO: Public-safety and utility officials announced Wednesday that the San Diego Fire-Rescue Department will soon have another tool to keep the public safe — an agency-wide set of multi-gas detectors slated to be distributed to the city's emergency-response vehicles.
The devices, which can detect natural gas, carbon monoxide and other toxic vapors, were donated by San Diego Gas & Electric and will be delivered to all 52 SDFRD stations this year, officials said during a morning briefing at San Diego Fire Station 45 in Mission Valley.

When Arlington firefighters respond to drug overdoses, they could soon start bringing along enough doses of an opioid-reversal drug to leave some behind.
This is part of a statewide effort “to prevent fatal overdoses and increase community access” to the nasal spray Narcan, one form of the reversal drug called naloxone.

On May 9, 2013, a massive truck fire erupted on the ramp of Route 22/322 in Dauphin County.
The fire caused many headaches for motorists and people around the area.
According to abc27 media partner Lancaster Online/LNP, reports said that the truck was heading northbound when it flipped over on a ramp to Route 22/322 westbound.

The Evansville Fire Department responded to a garage fire Saturday that resulted in $100,000 in damages.
Fire officials said a garage attached to a house caught fire around 3 p.m. Saturday. Firefighters controlled the fire within minutes, but thorough damage to the property still occurred.
Crews rescued one pet, then extinguished the fire that had spread to the rest of the house.

PHOTOS: The eyes of the nation were on the Las Vegas valley, specifically Henderson, 35 years ago when a series of explosions at an industrial plant rocked the valley killing two people, leaving hundreds injured, causing more than $100 million in damage and impacting the NASA space shuttle program.

Iowa no longer has a mandatory retirement age for reserve police officers and volunteer firefighters. Full and part-time police and firefighters in Iowa must retire at the age of 65.
The governor has signed a bill into law that eliminates that age restriction for volunteer firefighters and trained reserve police officers who are volunteers, but can make arrests and investigate crimes.

The Michigan Firehouse Museum is opening doors up again for firefighters for a limited time. Originally built in 1898, the Ypsilanti Firehouse was closed and later revitalized as a museum.
