Arizona city considers laying off all police or firefighters

A projected $624,000 budget deficit has the South Tucson City Council considering the possibility of having to lay off all of its firefighters or its police officers. Officials said they would look to contract with another agency or agencies to handle court services, patrol city streets and handle other emergency services in the one-square-mile city.

MedStar ambulance service using Lyft for low-priority calls

Amherst: 4 significant fires reported in 25 year span at homes occupied by arson suspect

Nearly six years after an Amherst garage was damaged by fire, one of its owners faces criminal charges. Online court records show Barbara Maslowski-Day will be charged with arson at her first court appearance on May 1. According to court documents, a neighbor reported the fire around 2 p.m. on May 18, 2011 at 8088 Standing Rocks Road in the Town of Stockton, near Amherst.

Texas city's leaders, firefighters face off over civil service proposition

A group of city leaders led by Mayor Jeff Williams has banded together to oppose a voter proposition seeking to establish a civil service system for firefighters, warning that it could lead to reduced response times and cuts in city services. 3 off-duty Georgia firefighters injured, 1 fatally, in California crash; DUI suspect in custody

Three off-duty Georgia firefighters were injured, one of them fatally, when the car in which they were traveling was struck by a suspected DUI driver Monday evening in Venice, authorities have confirmed. The three-vehicle crash took place about 10 p.m. at the intersection of Ocean Avenue and Washington Boulevard, according to the Los Angeles Police Department.

Last alarm looms for Florida volunteer fire department

Cincinnati firefighters ask city council for bulletproof vests

East Madison duplex fire caused by improper handling of grilling materials

Several residents of a far east side duplex are temporarily displaced after a fire spread through the building Monday afternoon, officials said. Madison Fire Department spokesperson Bernadette Galvez said firefighters were called to the duplex in the 3800 block of Sunbrook Road at 3:02 p.m. for a report of a fire in the back of the home.
