The jail sentence handed down Wednesday to the township fire chief’s son is the latest black eye for a department riddled with controversy the past decade.
With the township still reeling from a theft scandal that sent the former chief to prison, the current chief’s son, Richard Hart Jr., 19, is now behind bars for an arson that destroyed a home.

A volunteer firefighter who was shot four times while trying to help a man says he still relives the shooting that killed his partner a year later.

Two people are in the hospital after a house fire on Madison's north side. Crews were called to the fire at 1401 Nevada Rd. around 10:30 p.m. Thursday. As of 12:45 a.m. Friday, Madison Fire said firefighters had the fire under control and were working to put out hot spots. There is no word on the extent of the injuries.

Four members of the Billerica Fire Department have been placed on leave while the town conducts an investigation into “sexual misconduct,” officials said.

A carbon monoxide leak prompted an evacuation Tuesday night of a downtown Madison restaurant, according to a news release. The Madison Fire Department said a crew responded at 10:26 p.m. to Zandru's Tapas Bar at 419 State Street on a report of a CO leak in the basement. Everyone inside had already evacuated when firefighters arrived.

A 29-year-old man has been charged with First Degree Intentional Homicide for shooting his girlfriend to death and setting their Princeton home on fire to destroy evidence, according to a newly released criminal. On March 13, Princeton Police were called to a fire at 103 South Farmer Street. They arrived to find heavy smoke and flames coming from the upstairs of the home.

A Wisconsin State Patrol officer was killed early Tuesday near Wisconsin Dells when his patrol car crashed on Interstate 90/94 near mile marker 89. The trooper was identified late Tuesday morning as Anthony J. Borostowski of Tomah. Borostowski reportedly lost control of his patrol car and it veered off the highway into a ditch, hitting a nearby tree.

A St. Louis police union official has issued a clarification after an editorial in a union newspaper angered city firefighters.
Jeff Roorda, St. Louis Police Officers Association business manager, penned a front-page editorial in the April edition of the union paper Gendarme lauding officers for their promptness and bravery, but criticizing city firefighters for the lack thereof.
