Resident attacks Indiana firefighter after house fire reveals drug growing operation

An early morning house fire in Logansport on Monday led to the discovery of a drug growing operation, according to officials. The fire broke out around 7 a.m. near the intersection of 14th and High streets. Four people were inside the house at the time. They all got out OK, but two firefighters were injured.

Detroit teen meets firefighter he says saved his life

Today a Detroit teenager got a chance to meet the firefighter who saved his life. Detroit Fire Fighter Lt. Theresa Halsell wasn’t at the house fire that burned the teen’s home, but she was the guest speaker who taught his class at Woodward Academy how to survive a house fire. Her lesson played out in real life for Thomas Locke when he woke up to a fire inside his Grandmother's home.

Sun Prairie Fire Department considers program to train high school students

VIDEO: Starting this fall, Sun Prairie could have a new group of recruits for its fire department, training future firefighters while they're still in high school. Milwaukee firefighter injured battling apartment fire near 57th and Hampton

VIDEO: A fire broke out in a multi-unit apartment building near 57th and Hampton and a firefighter was injured while battling the blaze. A neighbor tells us they saw someone being carried out on a stretcher and loaded into an ambulance. The Milwaukee Fire Department says that the firefighter suffered non-life threatening injuries when falling from the 2nd to 1st floor of the building.

Women's restroom set on fire at village of Pewaukee Kiwanis Park

PHOTO: A fire at a restroom at Kiwanis Village Park has led the village to shut down the building until further notice to clean and restore the building. The April 18 fire in the women's restroom caused fire and smoke damage to the entire building, according to the village. A post on the Pewaukee Park and Recreation Department's Facebook page said the park has had "an extraordinary amount of vandalism" in the last 10 days.

Town of Wilson names interim fire chief

An interim fire chief has been named by the Town of Wilson board following the resignation of the town's existing chief last week. Todd Hittman, a firefighter with the department, has been named to the interim position until a permanent chief is selected. "You guys do a tremendous service to the town and I really appreciate all the work you're doing to step up and serve us during this difficult time," Town Board Chairman John Ehmann said following the decision Monday.

Feds: Philly firefighter's death resulted partly from bad equipment, late backup

Firefighter Joyce Craig made five “Mayday” distress transmissions as she became trapped in the dining room of a burning West Oak Lane home on Dec. 9, 2014. “Engine 73 can’t breathe, I can’t breathe,” Craig, 37, said in her final transmission. Nine minutes later, Craig – the first female Philadelphia firefighter to die in the line of duty – was found by her comrades with her left hand still near the nozzle of her fire hose, according to a report released Monday by the National Institute for Occupational Safety and Health.

Texas chief to may responds to mayor's letter about cutting ties with fire department

After Elkhart Mayor Mike Gordon wrote a letter to the public explaining why the city council decided to sever ties with its fire department, Elkhart Volunteer Fire Chief Randy McCoy responded. McCoy disagrees with Gordon, who said the city was spending a tremendous amount of money paying for the volunteer fire department's insurance and utilities, and the history of oversight and accountability demands placed on city officials, as well as the city’s staff, were costly and time consuming.

Residents flee early-morning blaze at Massachusetts home; Firefighter briefly trapped

A construction worker frantically woke residents of a two-story home in Cambridge, alerting the three people upstairs to escape as flames swept through the second floor, grateful renters said this morning. Dozens of firefighters responded to the multi-alarm blaze. Ladder trucks poured water into the second floor, shattering windows.

California city pays $80K after firefighter injures girl during fall at safety event

Modesto has paid $80,000 to settle allegations that one of its firefighters tripped and fell on a third-grader and broke her arm during a Fire Department safety event called the Clown Program, in which firefighters dress up as clowns to teach schoolchildren such basics as when to call 911 and how to get out of a burning house.

New Jersey firefighter denied workers' comp in parking lot altercation

A state appellate court on Monday ruled that a borough volunteer firefighter can not receive workers' compensation for a serious head injury suffered in a parking lot altercation with another firefighter. Jamie Benimadho suffered a skull fracture, hemorrhages and traumatic brain injury when his head hit the pavement in a fall during an incident that began with horseplay between two other volunteer firefighters.

Buffalo County firefighters treated for smoke inhalation while responding to chimney fire Saturday

Several firefighters had to be treated for smoke inhalation after they responded to a chimney fire in Buffalo County. It happened in the Village of Nelson Saturday afternoon. The sheriff's department says the chimney of the home had to be torn down, and portions of the outside wall had to be removed in order to prevent the fire from spreading into the entire house.

Two men rescued on Lake Altoona after boat capsizes

Two men are safe after being rescued on a local lake after the boat they were in capsized Sunday afternoon. According to the Altoona Police Department, Johnny Lowe, 31, and Frank Scholl, 32, were pulled from Lake Altoona just before 1 P.M. Sunday. "Originally, when we first got here we could only see one life jacket on a gentleman and he was trying to wave his arms around out there," said Pamela Nelson who was at the beach when the boat went under.

Pierce County fire sends one firefighter to hospital

Ellsworth fire crews battled flames at an area business Saturday afternoon. According to a press release, the Ellsworth Fire Department responded to River City Metals, located at N3941 State Road 35, for a structure fire. Fire crews said heavy fire could be spotted coming from two, pole-shed type buildings that were built together.
