Shooter opens fire on paramedics in East Dallas; at least 1 firefighter shot

At least one firefighter was shot when a gunman opened fire on paramedics in East Dallas late Monday morning. Dallas Police are currently searching for an active shooter in the neighborhood east of the Dallas Fire Rescue Training Academy. The shooting happened at about 11:30 a.m. at the facility which is near Dolphin Road near Interstate 30.

Driver Strikes and Kills Arkansas Fire Chief During Severe Storms

Cove Creek Pearson Volunteer Fire Chief Doug Deckard died after being struck by a car while checking water lines early Sunday during severe storms. The Arkansas State Police says Deckard, 51, was working along Highway 25 just west of the Faulkner-Cleburne County line near Quitman. He was outside of his vehicle checking doing work when he was hit.

83-year-old Ohio firefighter dies after being struck at accident scene

An 83-year-old Austinburg firefighter died Friday evening from injuries he sustained when he was struck by a vehicle late Thursday, according to firefighters from around the area. Austinburg firefighter Dave Lemponen was with the Austinburg department for about 60 years, said fire Chief William Wilms.

Massachusetts sex scandal mirrors problem cultures in other fire departments

It's been the talk of the town for weeks: Three firefighters and a dispatcher in hot water for their alleged "sexual misconduct" in the fire station. While shocking many in the community, it's not the first time that fire departments have been at the center of sex scandals. For instance, seven Philadelphia firefighters faced discipline in 2015 for having sex with a paramedic on duty.

Ohio fire union treasurer accused of stealing more than $600,000 from union

When Joseph Ruhlin was supposed to be watching over the Akron fire union’s funds the past six years, detectives say he instead was stealing them. And, detectives now say, the extent of this theft was much larger than the union originally thought — totaling more than $600,000. “It’s a staggering amount,” said Russ Brode, president of the 322-member fire union.

Pennsylvania judge hopes to place more juvenile offenders with volunteer fire departments

Juvenile offenders shine the trucks, spiff up the hall, assist at bingo fundraisers and even help roll up the hoses sometimes when trucks pull back into one of Latrobe's five fire stations after a call. A juvenile probation program that gives teens community service work at the stations has benefited the youths and the all-volunteer fire company over the past five years, said city fire Chief John Brasile.

VIDEO: The Eau Claire fire department also responded to a home fire this morning just before 5 a-m. It happened on Hartzell lane on the city's north side. When crews arrived, they found heavy smoke and fire coming from the windows, and doors of the front of the building. Fire damage was contained to one apartment, but there was smoke and water damage to all 4 units.

Update: Autopsy unable to ID human remains found in Ixonia shed fire, officials say

Human remains were found inside a shed that caught fire in the town of Ixonia, but officials are working on additional DNA testing to identify the body, according to a release.

Gateway Technical College, Waterford working on fire training lease

Osceola to buy Fullerton property for fire hall

Threats made to New Orleans firehouses; union confirms firefighters took part in monument removal

Saving money by calling Uber instead of 911 may cost lives, Utah paramedics say

Minnesota firefighter sues city, saying he was demoted because he is gay

An Eagan firefighter is suing the city and its fire chief, claiming he was demoted from a battalion chief position because he is gay. In a civil lawsuit filed this week in U.S. District Court, firefighter Dan Benson alleges discrimination based on his sexual orientation and violation of his constitutional rights by Eagan Fire Chief Mike Scott and the city.

Anger, concern after shots fired at Milwaukee fire station

Milwaukee Alderman Bob Donovan and others reacted with anger and concern after a Milwaukee Fire Department station near Teutonia and Locust was shot at on Sunday, April 23rd. A bullet penetrated the window of Station 30 during the shots fired incident. It happened around 6:45 p.m. as the firefighters at Station 30 were getting dispatched to a car fire.

Florida deputies: Suspect bites skin off firefighter's arm

A Lake Wales man is accused of biting a chunk of skin out of an firefighter who was helping a deputy restrain him, according to the Polk County Sheriff's Office. According to an affidavit, on Tuesday night deputies responded to a crash in the area of Thornhill Road and Moonlite Pass. When a deputy asked Breonski Gardner, 26, for his license, Gardner threw the keys at him and told him to get it himself.

Madison Police and Fire Commission declines to elaborate on Koval decision

The Madison City Council will have to decide whether or not to reimburse Chief Mike Koval over $21,000 in legal fees fees without direction from the Police and Fire Commission. The city Finance Committee recommended paying fees Koval incurred while defending himself against a series of complaints. But alders questioned the PFC’s language in its decision to not penalize Koval.

Off-duty Wisconsin deputy chief helps prevent woman from jumping off bridge

VIDEO - An off-duty Milwaukee firefighter heading home from work helped saved the life of a young woman threatening to jump off the Hoan bridge. Deputy chief John Litchford was heading south down the Hoan bridge Tuesday night when he saw the young woman outside of her car on at the highest point of the bridge.
