Massachusetts fire department celebrates night of historic promotions

The current and former fire chiefs, with a combined 30 years at the helm, stood proudly Wednesday at the selectmen's meeting for an unprecedented night they'd long awaited: the appointment of five captains to the 31-member department. It was a first. "It's just a great night for us," said Scott Jepson, the chief of the past decade.

Milwaukee mother faces life in prison after 4-year-old with autism bound with 7 belts, set on fire in bathtub

VIDEO: Criminal charges have been filed against a mother accused in the death of her four-year-old son -- her only child, who had autism. The accused is 23-year-old Amelia Di Stasio, who faces a charge of first degree intentional homicide in the death of Antonio Di Stasio, which happened on September 28th near 17th and Grant.

Sauna fire likely caused by candle, Madison officials say

A candle likely caused a sauna on Madison’s near east side to catch fire Tuesday morning, fire officials said. Crews were called around 9:50 a.m. to the 200 block of Merry Street for reports of a fire inside a backyard sauna, according to a release. Firefighters could see brown smoke coming from the eaves and around the door of the structure, officials said.

Early morning fire damages home on Milwaukee’s north side

Firefighters on Wednesday morning, October 4th responded to the scene of a house fire on Milwaukee’s north side. The call came in shortly before 5:00 a.m. It happened near 35th and Hampton. The Red Cross says they are assisting two adults and six children following the fire. No additional details have been release — including the cause of the fire or the amount of damage sustained.

Eagle Point elections reject new fire hall

The Town of Eagle Point will not be getting a new fire station after a vote for a new building failed at Monday night’s special meeting of town residents. The residents, called electors, rejected a proposed fire station by a margin of 137-116. The town said the current fire station, built in the 1970s and next to the town hall, lacks space for equipment.

Fire at auto parts recycling business in Grand Chute

VIDEO: The Grand Chute Fire Department says a fire broke out at Cousineau Auto around 2:30 Wednesday morning. Assistant Fire Chief Brian Schommer says flames were visible in the front windows when crews arrived on scene. He says they were able to put out the blaze in about five minutes. "Looks like damage was limited to the showroom area," said Schommer.

Fire at garage in Kenosha apartment complex

A garage at Stationside Village apartments caught fire Tuesday night. Firefighters were called at 8:31 p.m. to 5221 10th Ave. for the fire, which started in a garage on the ground level, with apartments above. A vehicle inside the garage sustained extensive damage as 6-foot flames shot out of the garage.

12 off-duty firefighters hurt in Las Vegas rampage, union says

Union officials say 12 off-duty firefighters were shot while attending a country music festival in Las Vegas, including two who were wounded while administering CPR to gunshot victims. Angelo Aragon, president of the Professional Fire Fighters of Nevada, said Tuesday that all the firefighters survived their wounds.

Army vet is Texas city's first female battalion chief

An Army veteran who has spent the past 24 years as an Austin firefighter is now the city’s first female fire battalion chief, officials announced Monday. Rebecca Ackerman, who is one of 73 women — including Austin Fire Chief Rhoda Mae Kerr — among 1,007 employees in the Austin Fire Department, was promoted to battalion chief after serving as captain in the communications section.

Virginia councilman says city is addressing firefighter shortage after union's Facebook post

BUG Fire Department battles biggest grass fire of the year by Highway 57

The BUG Fire Department was able to contain a grass fire on the Brussels hill in southern Door County Tuesday and prevent any damage to structures. The fire was reported about 3:20 pm near the southbound lane of Highway 57. Assistant Fire Chief Jim Wautier describes what firefighters from both departments that were deployed encountered.

Deputy Fire Chief Details Las Vegas Shooter Response

A barrage of gunfire erupted from one of the upper floors of the Mandalay Bay hotel a bit after 10 p.m. Sunday night aimed at a massive crowd attending a country music festival across the Las Vegas Strip. FDNY 9/11 fire commissioner to lead Puerto Rico recovery efforts

Three former chiefs arrested in investigation of Florida fire department

Three former chiefs of the defunct Hernando Beach Volunteer Fire Department, including current Brooksville Chief David Freda, were arrested Friday, each was charged with one count of organized fraud. The charges stem from a seven-month Hernando County Sheriff's Office investigation of misappropriation of public funds.

Idaho fire engine stuck in sinkhole after water main break

PHOTO - Roads remain blocked on the Boise State campus Tuesday morning after a water main break caused flooding and sent a fire engine into a sinkhole. The water line that ruptured Monday evening ran under University Drive near the Student Union Building. The intersection of University Drive and Lincoln Avenue will be closed through Wednesday morning, or until road repairs are done.

Man charged with scuffling with police during Pennsylvania fire

A New York man who pushed past firefighters to remove a package from a burning building is facing aggravated assault charges after getting into a scuffle with police, according to court documents. Michael R. Davis, 39, of Brooklyn, is accused of resisting arrest after repeatedly entering a cordoned area of a house fire burning Sunday night at South Sherman and East South streets.
