Several people rescued from Racine house fire on Grand Avenue

Three people, one of them a 3-year-old girl, had to be rescued Saturday afternoon from a second-floor balcony after a fire broke out at a multi-family dwelling at 17th Street and Grand Avenue as tenants were repairing the gas tank on a car. A 50-year-old man suffered what fire officials described as “noncritical burns” in the incident.

Old and young celebrate 150 years of fire service in Beaver Dam

The Beaver Dam Fire Station was full of activity Saturday morning with staff dashing in and out of fire trucks, children operating fire hoses and retired firefighters trading old stories in the garage. “It’s good to see the retired guys show up,” Beaver Dam Fire Chief Alan Mannel said. Hay fire destroys barn in Shawano County

A hay barn in Shawano County is a total loss after a fire early Sunday morning. Fire Chief Dan Ladwig from the Bowler Fire Department said firefighters were on scene for more than 12 hours at Matsche Farms in the Town of Almon. Multiple fire departments provided mutual aid. Cattle were in a nearby barn just feet away, but did not suffer any injuries.

Chippewa Valley Technical College training site receives updates to prepare firefighters

Firefighters from 15 departments throughout west-central Wisconsin agreed on the toughest part of their upcoming state certification test: The ladder challenge was not going to be easy. At a new training facility on the west campus of Chippewa Valley Technical College in Eau Claire, firefighters set a tall ladder reaching three stories up, then climbed it while carrying another ladder on their backs.

Spring Green Volunteer Fire Department is staffed by generations of families

Contract firefighter killed near Napa County wildfire in California

A contract firefighter who was driving a water tender truck was killed Monday morning when it went off the road and crashed in Napa County near the Nuns Fire, Cal Fire officials said. The truck overturned about 6:50 a.m. on Oakville Grade, about two miles west of Highway 29. The driver was working the 48,000-acre Nuns Fire that's burning in Napa County, Cal Fire Chief David Shew said.

Former Phoenix Fire Chief, Alan Brunacini, dies

Former Phoenix Fire Chief, Alan Brunacini, has died Sunday. Brunacini, who served as fire chief for 28 years, joined the Phoenix Fire Department in 1959. Prior to becoming fire chief in 1978, Brunacini held every sworn position in the organization including a firefighter, engineer, captain, battalion chief, and assistant chief, Phoenix Fire Chief Kara Kalkbrenner said in a Sunday statement.

South Dakota Fire Chief Killed Battling Structure Fire

State officials say a Presho volunteer firefighter died of a medical condition at the scene of a weekend fire. According to the South Dakota Fire Marshal's Office, 54-year-old Donald Manger died Saturday while working at a structure fire in rural Lyman County. Authorities say Manger experienced a medical condition, then collapsed to the ground.

An army of firefighters brave deadly, epic California firestorm

Maryland volunteer firefighter turns 101 after more than 40 years of service

Black River Falls Fire Department teaches students about fire prevention

Death toll hits 31; wildfires become deadliest in California's history

After four days of terrorizing Wine Country and surrounding regions, the Northern California wildfires on Thursday became the deadliest in state history, with 31 confirmed fatalities and more expected. The most destructive of those, the Tubbs fire, killed at least 15 people, and new figures told of its destruction.
