After hit-and-run, injured Massachusetts firefighter welcomed back

Onset firefighter Marc Granato lay unconsciousness in a raging storm, both boots knocked off his feet. Speeding away during the March 2 nor'easter was the person who struck the 25-year-old in a hit-and-run. Running toward Granato was Onset Fire Lt. Justin Harrington. He’d seen many similar crashes. They never ended well.

Indiana fire chief helps battle blaze at his own home

It was a scary moment for a local fire chief when he found himself fighting a fire inside his own home early this morning. Several fire departments responded to the house fire on State Road 104 in La Porte County. No one was hurt, but the home is a total loss. We spoke to the fire chief for the Pleasant Township Volunteer Fire Department.

Milwaukee man hailed a hero for running into burning building to save neighbors says ‘I did what I had to do’

VIDEO: A Milwaukee man is being hailed a hero after running into a burning building to rescue people. Juan Aguilera was asleep when fire alarms woke him up on Saturday, April 14. He ran out of the building, only to run back inside moments later. It happened near 43rd and Arthur. Aguilera captured it with his cellphone.

Onalaska firefighters train on new fire engine

VIDEO: The Onalaska Fire Department has a new tool to fight fires. Three years ago, the City of Onalaska saw a need. "The truck that this replaced was a 1992 Peterbilt," said Jim Netwal, firefighter at Onalaska Fire Department. "So, that was a good truck, but old and breaking down." Taxpayers and city officials decided to make a new fire engine a priority.

25 cows dead in Marathon County barn fire

VIDEO: Twenty-five cows died in a barn fire in Marathon County, according to authorities. Firefighters were called to the barn on Eau Pleine Road Wednesday afternoon. Flames could be seen shooting from the roof of the barn. Officials said the blaze may have been sparked by a heater. Crews had to tear down two silos on the property for safety reasons.

Multiple agencies called to fire at Burlington home

Dog dies after Amherst fire crews attempt water rescue

PHOTO: The Amherst Fire District says a pet dog is dead after rescuing it from icy water Wednesday. Lieutenant Tom Iverson tells NewsChannel 7 firefighters responded to a boat landing in Amhrest around 7:30 a.m. According to a post on the department's Facebook page, despite the rescue, the pet did not survive.

Heavy smoke: Early morning fire damages Kenosha home, cause under investigation

Firefighters on Wednesday morning, April 18 responded to the scene of a house fire near 63rd Street and 60th Avenue in Kensoha. The call in around 4:15 a.m. When crews arrived on scene, they encountered heavy smoke coming from a two-story structure. The fire was brought under control and eventually extinguished by multiple departments.

Follow Up: Onalaska firefighters arrive just in time to deliver baby boy

When Jessica Mootz started having contractions last Tuesday, she quickly realized she didn't have time to wait for her partner Andy Campbell to get home so she called 911. Onalaska firefighter/emts Tony Hilton and Scott weeks rushed to the scene. Mootz was in the bathroom at her home in Onalaska trying to reassure her eight-year-old daughter Adelaide that everything was OK.

‘God was with us that day’: Crews recount rescue of Texas firefighters surrounded by brush fire

For about 10 minutes, Emergency Services District 1 firefighters Jessilyn Davis and Lt. Brannon Stengel found themselves surrounded by a brush fire April 11 in western Travis County. The winds, which had shifted toward them, and 20 percent humidity that day only made matters worse. They tried to stay positive, but Stengel said in the backs of their minds, they thought they had come face-to-face with the blaze that would take their lives.

Former Rhode Island fire chief escapes prison but must repay taxpayers for illegal pension

A judge has sentenced the former fire chief of the Coventry Fire District to three years of probation and ordered him to repay nearly $200,000 for fraudulently receiving retirement benefits. Paul Labbadia, 52, of North Providence, pleaded no contest in January to three counts that he filed false documents to obtain a public pension.

Judge rules Illinois city violated contract with firefighters union

Firefighters are breathing a sigh of relief after a nearly year-long struggle. The Mattoon Fire Department will have to hire a handful of new firefighters. It's after a judge ruled that the city violated their contract last year. The fire department is supposed to have more than 30 firefighters, but right now they're at 24.

Texas Firefighter Rushed to Save Woman in Plane Blast

A firefighter from Texas is being lauded for his heroic efforts after he helped pull a fellow passenger back inside a plane when she was sucked outside during an emergency landing Tuesday in Philadelphia. According to the Daily Mirror, Celina firefighter Andrew Needum was nearby when debris from the engine explosion on Southwest Airlines flight 1380 ripped a hole in the window where 43-year-old Jennifer Riordan was sitting.

Sauk Prairie Police, Sauk City Fire discover fire scare turns out to be roasting beans

The morning of April 12 went pretty much according to plan for John Brennan, owner of John Joseph Coffee in Sauk City. That is until two members of the Sauk City Fire Department came into the coffee roaster’s door at 112 Van Buren St., in full protective gear with axes in hand. Chunk of ice sliced through Nekoosa man's windshield, he feels lucky to be alive

A 24-year-old Nekoosa man considers himself lucky to be alive after a chunk of ice went through the windshield of his car Monday and hit him in the face. Derek C. Baker said he was driving home to Nekoosa Monday after the worst of the snowstorm had passed from La Crosse, where he had been visiting his girlfriend.
