A love of baseball led 19-year-old Dan Ferrise to join the Okauchee Fire Department. A love of firefighting kept him there for more than three decades. Ferrise is retiring May 19 as president of the department. He joined the department in 1982 so he could play ball on the department ream with his father, Frank, who had joined OFD in the late 1970s.

A three-alarm warehouse fire in Houston's East End scorched at least one nearby home and led to the hospitalization of a firefighter.

The cost of the city’s legal bills for the ongoing firefighters’ contract dispute increased $110,000 during a recent three-month period and now exceeds $634,000.

Officials with the Milwaukee Fire Department are investigating a fire that happened at a vacant home early Sunday, May 6. It happened around 3:45 a.m. near 28th and Fond du Lac. Saturday night, Madison Fire Department said an aggressive fire was reported on the 1900 block of Northport Drive. MFD was called to the 20-unit apartment building around 7:18p.m. The fire department said firefighters entered through the front of an apartment where they found heavy smoke. The second story bedroom was fully engulfed in flames.

When a Madison resident arrived home around 6:50 p.m. Friday, there was a fire in the garage, according to officials with the Madison Fire Department. A young boy in Marathon County battling cancer had a dream come true Thursday when he became an honorary firefighter for the day. Lincoln Schrock is only 3 1/2 years old, but he already knows he wants to be a firefighter.
"That's been a dream of his forever," said Kaitlyn Schrock, Lincoln's mom. "I hope one day he can experience it for real, being a firefighter.

A Las Vegas Fire Department captain paralyzed in an on-duty crash almost 15 years ago has died.
Thelonious “Theo” Adams, a captain and 13-year veteran of the department, was paralyzed from the neck down after a fire engine responding to reports of smoke in an apartment rolled over on Halloween night in 2003.
