A fire call Saturday in the town of Campbell sparked La Crosse’s fire chief to ignite the concept of forming a regional department. But Chief Ken Gilliam, just shy of a year into the job, said leaders of La Crosse’s neighboring municipalities extinguished the idea. PHOTO: A 140-year-old downtown Milwaukee church was heavily damaged by fire Tuesday. The blaze at Trinity Evangelical Lutheran Church broke out Tuesday afternoon and kept dozens of firefighters busy for hours. Deputy Milwaukee Fire Chief Christopher Snyder said the fire started at about 3:45 p.m. No cause has been announced, but the pastor said construction work was being done on the roof.

Ashwaubenon Public Safety and fire crews were called to 965 Duchateau Avenue for an overnight house fire. When officers arrived, they saw smoke and flames coming from the roof of the home. Chief Eric Dunning said that officers searched the first floor of the home and found no one inside. When firefighters arrived they did their own extensive search of the property.

VIDEO: The ramp from northbound I-894 was temporarily closed Wednesday morning, May 16 due a jackknifed semi on westbound I-43 in the Hale Interchange. The Greenfield Fire Department says the semi struck a median wall. They had to contain a minor fuel leak before opening the road. No injuries have been reported.

The city is mourning the loss of a veteran firefighter who died Monday after suffering a heart attack while on duty over the weekend.
Thomas Cannon, 63, a firefighter with the city for over 30 years, died at Rhode Island Hospital in Providence. The fire department announced his death Tuesday morning over the public safety radio.

A fire Monday night at Zuber's Meats on 19th Street in Monroe caused about $100,000 damage, according to the fire chief.
