Follow Up: Coworker who filed complaint against Mosinee fire officials speaks out

VIDEO: The day after records were released regarding complaints against former Mosinee Fire Chief Doug Jennings and former Deputy Chief Emily Dobeck, one person who wrote a complaint to the mayor is speaking out. "I just felt in my heart I had to do something about it," said the source, who asked to remain anonymous because she's completing her fire training at a different department.

Madison: Man arrested after setting trucks on fire

A man was arrested for arson near the east side of Madison early Wednesday morning. Two parked trucks were set on fire in front of a house on Jacobson Avenue just after 4:30 a.m., according to the Madison Police Department. The 51-year-old homeowner discovered accelerants had been poured near the front of his house.

Woman arrested in Waterloo RV fire

A Waterloo woman has been arrested for allegedly setting fire to a recreational vehicle parked behind her home last week. Sharice Demetria Schoonover, 25, of 325 Reber Ave., was arrested Tuesday for first-degree arson. Her bond was set at $25,000. Police said the fire followed an ongoing dispute with roommate Damarius O’Neal.

Riverside third-grader earns ride in Fond du Lac fire truck

As the top fundraiser for the Riverside Elementary School’s Walk-a-Thon, Abigail Hanke, a third-grader, earned a ride to school on one of Fond du Lac’s fire trucks. Abigail was picked up at her home where she boarded the fire truck and saw firsthand all the technology that firemen use when responding to an emergency, and could feel how it is to ride in a truck this size.

UW-Madison won’t release report on rescue service involved in windsurfer’s death

University of Wisconsin-Madison officials declined to release an administrative review that led them to shift the management of a Lake Mendota rescue service scrutinized after the death of a windsurfer in a collision with a rescue boat a year ago. The UW-Madison Police Department announced Wednesday that it had taken over operation of UWPD Lake Rescue and Safety.

Around 30 displaced in Milwaukee apartment fire

Around 30 people were displaced after a fire broke out in an apartment building in Milwaukee Wednesday night. Authorities say it happened near 39th and Hopkins. Firefighters say the fire was located on the first floor of the building. Crews initially were told several people were trapped inside, but after searching the building, one person was found inside and was able to walk out without assistance.

Veteran New York Firefighter Dies Following Responses

A veteran firefighter from a community south of the New York state capital has died after responding to two fires the previous day. Hudson volunteer firefighter Mark A. Graziano, 47, was found unresponsive at his home shortly after 8 a.m. Thursday, less than 12 hours after he responded to a fire call that was his second in the 24 hours preceding his death.

California department's firefighters may stop responding to low-priority 911 calls

In Chula Vista, firefighters and paramedics respond to low-priority 911 calls even though less than one percent of those calls require emergency medical services. By not sending firefighters to those calls, the Chula Vista Fire Department believes it can respond to high-priority calls faster. The department is currently considering sending only ambulances to what are officially known as level three calls.

Mississippi chief keeps job after investigation of alleged head-butting incident

New research recommends slight increases for wildland firefighting safe separation distances

Wildland firefighters operate in a difficult environment where a variety of factors including topography, vegetation and quickly changing weather and fire conditions can lead to great risk of injury or death from burnovers or entrapment. There are various models that provide firefighters with estimates of safe separation distance: the distance between themselves and the flames necessary to reduce the risk of burn injury.

After 32 years, Stratford Area Fire Department chief retires

DNR pilots get bird's-eye view of wildfires, rising waters

Small explosions heard during Marathon County structure fire

VIDEO: A two-car garage burned to the ground Tuesday in southwestern Marathon County and investigators have not been able to determine a cause. "It was fully engulfed when we got there," said Stratford Fire Chief Bill Griesbach. Fire crews responded just before 11:20 a.m. to the fire on Kuehlman Lane in the Town of Green Valley, southeast of Stratford.
