Texas fire department stands by response times during deadly July Fourth holiday

The Fort Worth Fire Department is standing behind its response protocol after a deadly Independence Day holiday. The department responded to hundreds of calls during a 24-hour period. During one call, a 19-year-old died of fireworks burns. The fire department released a snapshot of its work on July Fourth.

Worker dies after fall at Oak Creek Amazon site

A worker died Wednesday after a fall at an under construction Amazon facility. It happened shortly after 10 a.m. at a construction site in the 9700 block of S. 13th Street in Oak Creek. A 911 caller reported the victim was operating a piece of equipment on an upper floor and drove the equipment out an open window.

Follow Up: Lessons learned from the Sun Prairie explosion one year later

In Sun Prairie, grass now grows where the Barr House and the Glass Nickel once stood at the corner of Main and Bristol Streets. A visible sign that the healing process continues after the fatal gas explosion on July 10, 2018 that leveled a part of the city's downtown and killed Fire Captain Cory Barr.

No one injured, pets rescued from Red Wing mobile home fire

All occupants — including a dog and three cats — made it out safely after a mobile home caught fire Tuesday night, July 9, in Red Wing. Red Wing Fire Department responded after 6:30 p.m. to a report of a one-story mobile home on fire on Cottonwood Avenue, according to a news release. All residents were outside when firefighters arrived, and the four animals were rescued.

Study Finds Firefighters from California's Tubbs Fire Have Elevated Levels Of Toxins In Their System

Only two states, including South Carolina, have not passed bill compensating firefighters with cancer

New Jersey passed a firefighter cancer bill Monday, joining 47 states who already passed the bill, and leaving South Carolina as one of only two states without this protection for firefighters. Police chief: No danger to public as New Jersey fire chiefs worked without certification

Why firefighters in California city might be showing up to calls without a fire engine

VIDEO: The Turlock Fire Department has decided to essentially take a fire engine out of service any day a firefighter calls out sick or takes a vacation day. This comes after major budget cuts have reduced staffing to just 12 firefighters a day, down from 13. On Monday, fire engine 33 stood vacant all day at the Turlock's Fire Station 3.

HAZMAT team called after reported chemical spill in Oak Creek

A hazardous materials team was called to an Oak Creek business for a report of a chemical spill. It happened at an industrial park on 6th Street, south of Rawson Avenue. The Oak Cree Fire Department says chemicals overflowed and were caught inside a containment basin. Firefighters don't know what kind of chemical it was and brought in the Milwaukee Fire Department's HAZMAT team to help investigate.

Kitchen fire damages Wauwatosa home

A home in Wauwatosa was heavily damaged Monday evening after a fire started in the kitchen. Firefighters were called to the home on N. 65th Street near Center Park around 7:25 p.m. July 8 after a neighbor noticed smoke coming from the home and called 911. No one was at the home at the time of the fire.

Updates coming to Wisconsin firefighter training standards

VIDEO: Nearly 80 percent of Wisconsin’s fire departments are made of up volunteer firefighters according to the U.S. Fire Administration. Now, the standards for training professional and volunteer firefighters in the state of Wisconsin will see some changes in the coming months. Starting on October 1, the new standards will remove a 2 year grace period to train new firefighters and it will also eliminate a one-year grace period for fire officers to obtain more comprehensive training.

Despite demands from city council in Washington, city is relying on new dispatch center

Despite orders from the Spokane City Council to maintain an independent dispatch crew for firefighters, the city is now relying on a new regional system to handle emergency calls. As it prepares for the rest of the county to move forward with a new regional 911 dispatch system, the city has lost so many fire dispatchers that it can no longer fully provide fire dispatch services to itself or its neighbors.

Bill passed in Pennsylvania state budget helps volunteer firefighters save money from fundraisers

Volunteer firefighters in the Commonwealth will be able to save much needed money from some of their fundraisers, thanks to a bill that passed in this year's budget. In many towns, you'll see a fire hall, fully staffed with volunteers, selling BBQ chicken dinners. "We usually have five, six a season, so this is one of the half a dozen we have a year," said Fire Chief Nate Tracey, with Goodwill Fire Company.

40 hours, 20 fire departments in South Carolina and 2.5 millions gallons of water later …

After about 40 hours of pumping an estimated 2.5 million gallons of water, firefighters waging a battle against a large warehouse fire on Champion Ferry Road were finally able to declare the fire under control at 7:15 p.m. Friday. But even after the fire was deemed out, it was expected there would be some puffs of smoke worth monitoring and plenty of work remained.

No injuries after fire in Milwaukee apartment building elevator shaft; some residents displaced

No one was hurt in a fire that began in an elevator shaft at an apartment building near Marshall and Juneau on Milwaukee's lower east side Monday night, July 8. It happened just after 9 p.m. at the four-story apartment building, and fire extended to the roof. Officials said it wasn't believed fire extended to any apartments, though there was likely smoke damage.

Rhinelander Fire Dept. kicks off Fill the Boot campaign

Rhinelander Fire Department kicked off another season of fundraising Monday for those living with muscle diseases. From July 11 to 13, Rhinelander firefighters will collect donations at the intersection of Dwight and Stevens streets. The department has partnered with the Muscular Dystrophy Association, or MDA, for over a dozen years.

Man found dead in vehicle that burst into flames in Milwaukee

Milwaukee police made a grisly discovery Monday morning, July 8 after a vehicle burst into flames near 9th and Cleveland. Police said officers were called to the scene around 3 a.m. After firefighters with the Milwaukee Fire Department extinguished the flames, a search of the vehicle revealed there was a body inside.
