The Rhinelander Fire Department started Tuesday with an unusual patient: a trapped deer.
After receiving a call in the morning that a deer had fallen through the ice on Boom Lake in Oneida County, on the portion of ice that branches out toward the Wisconsin River, Scott Rathbun Jr. geared up to rescue the trapped animal.

A young boy in an SUV struck by a small plane that crashed just outside North Perry Airport on Monday afternoon has died in the hospital.
According to a Pembroke Pines Fire Department spokesperson, the crash took place in the area of SW 72 Avenue and 12 Street. The FAA said the single-engine Beechcraft Bonanza crashed shortly after takeoff around 3:00 p.

When Kent Vosburg visited a counselor after finding himself in “a bad way” a decade ago, it was the counselor who left the room crying.
“The person that’s supposed to come help me can’t do it,” Vosburg said.
In his career as a paramedic, Vosburg has witnessed several horrifying scenes. There was the woman who passed out on top of her infant daughter, smothering her for hours.

Firefighters have lined up their papers and ordered their coffee for a day’s event of chatting with community members. For the Lewis & Clark County Rural Fire Council, this “Frappe With A Firefighter” event helps recruit members during this crucial time.

A 67-year-old man from rural Osseo was found dead Monday morning in a car that burned in rural Eau Claire County.
Authorities have not yet released the identity of the man, who was found by firefighters and sheriff's deputies responding to a vehicle fire off Highway NN in the town of Otter Creek.
Investigation revealed the driver likely suffered a medical emergency, which caused him to drive off the road and into the ditch, according to the Eau Claire County Sheriff's Office.

Fire destroyed a garage and damaged a home early Monday morning in Portage County.
Fire crews responded around 12:15 a.m. to a home on Golden Road in the village of Plover, according to the Plover Fire Department.
Fire Chief Mark Deaver said an attached garage was on fire, and it spread to the kitchen and upstairs of the home.

The Racine Fire Department on Sunday, March 14 responded to the scene of a house fire on Green Street near Goold Street. The call came in around 9 p.m.
When crews arrived on the scene they located a fire in a second-floor bedroom.
The fire was brought under control within 18 minutes of the initial 911 call and did not spread beyond the room of origin.

As COVID-19 vaccinations continue in the Stateline Area, the Beloit Fire Department has stepped up to host mobile vaccination events for homebound individuals in partnership with community organizations working in the Beloit area.
