La Crosse’s fire chief looks to flip station projects, to bide time for potentially saving historic building

Millions in funding to build a new fire station on the north side could be transferred to another station project in La Crosse. After seeing an open-records request from someone on city council about Station 4, Fire Chief Ken Gilliam sent a video message to the council Wednesday seeking to make some changes.

Massive fire destroys vacant, historic former factory in Connecticut

These magnificent machines powered Pennsylvania's early fire departments

PHOTOS: The Chambersburg Fire Department dates back to 1780. At the time, to extinguish fires there was a bucket brigade, a group of personnel that threw water on the flames. It often wasn't very effective, as fires usually already spread too much to be subdued. It was during the early 1800s that hand-drawn apparatus was being used to manually pump water through the fire hose, directed by the nozzle man.

Life saving 3-digit phone number for suicide prevention coming to southeastern North Carolina in April

A 3-digit phone number — 988 — for suicide prevention and mental health crisis assistance that the Federal Communications Commission approved for nationwide use in July 2020 is being rolled out in some parts of the country beginning April 24, 2021. The 910 prefixes are currently the only North Carolina numbers impacted by the April 24 rollout.

Chambers Island CERT members offer support to first responders

Fire Danger Expected to Remain High in Wisconsin

Blaze destroys detached garage, vehicle in Trevor

Fire destroyed a detached garage and a vehicle inside it in the 12100 block of 222nd Avenue southwest of Lake Shangri-La Tuesday night. A resident who lives behind the structure called 911 at about 7 p.m. after hearing a bang and noticing light smoke coming from the eves, according to Salem Lakes Fire Chief Mike Slover.

Fire danger remains high in Eau Claire and La Crosse County

Dry conditions continue to play a role in grass fires around the area. Crews spent Tuesday at a fire south of Eau Claire, just off Priory Road. The Wisconsin Department of Natural Resources has Eau Claire County and La Crosse County listed at a “high level” for wildfires. The DNR reports around 100 wildfires have broken out across the state during the past two weeks, burning more than 183 acres.

Body of New York Firefighter Found Under Scorched Nursing Home

Nearly 24 hours after a firefighter went missing in a suburban New York assisted living home fire, his body has been found. Rockland County volunteer firefighter Jared Lloyd was the second casualty in the blaze that gutted the Evergreen Court Home for Adults in Spring Valley early Tuesday, according to Rabbi Yisroel Kahan of the county's Human Rights Commission.

Married Ohio fire lieutenants retire together

Wisconsin fire department training with augmented reality software
